I was stripping the inside out of my boat my 34 ft Sea Ray the express cruiser when I noticed that the plywood that holds the rub rail on was rotten,so I decided to reinstall new wood around the rub rail my analogy was to just put back plywood half inch plywood that was originally used on the Sea Ray, but after some long thinking of what to do I decided to go in a different direction on installing new rub rail backing. The new plan is to use solid wood cut it down to 3/4 thickness by inch and 5/8 wide then cut a thinner Gap into the wood and install 1/8 inch aluminum strips then fiberglass it and then reinstall it where the original rub rail was. Also to install the rub rail I would take out the old screws and then reinstall new screws that are self tapping threaded into the aluminum strip that way the fiberglass would protect the wood and the aluminum would hold the rub rail together. Does anybody have any better idea.

I AM GONNA TRY JB WELD IF THAT DOES NOT WORK THEN DRILL OUT HOLE GLUE IN DOWL WITH JB WELD REINSTALL NEW SCREW
