Has anyone replaced the hydraulic arm on the trim tabs?

Yes. :) Was there more to this question or was it just a general wonderment?

Why do you need to replace it? You can change the o-rings without removing it from the transom.

The piston or ram separated from the cylinder. I'm thinking I need to replace the entire hydraulic arm (cylinder and piston). So I was wanting to see if anyone has replaced it, before I order the parts.

Thanks, but the piston or ram separated from the cylinder. I'm thinking I need to replace the entire hydraulic arm (cylinder and piston).

SeaRay has used some custom actuators in the past, do you have a photo of the other side with the Tab retracted? That way I can get you the correct part number.

They are pretty straight forward, other than accessibility, which is always a challenge in boats. The ram is held onto the boat via the screws you can see from the outside. But first, on the inside, you remove the nut/tubing and then unscrew the brass 90* adapter.

However, you've gotten the attention of our resident expert (although I know for a fact that he cheats on us and is other forums, as well! ;) ). So I will defer to anything Tom wants to add.

As I mentioned SeaRay has used a few different actuators, so seeing a picture if the Tab in its retracted position will help us assure you order the correct replacement.

Thanks Tom. I will be back at the Lake this Friday and will get a picture to send. I appreciate the help.

Thank you. By the way, I plan to do this without pulling the boat out - that alone will cost $600. The ram/mount is above the waterline by about 4 inches, so I'm pretty sure i can remove it, keep the surface dry, and reattach a new ram/mount on the outside. Guess it depends on how long the sealant between the mount and the boat surface needs to cure, since any wave action will get the area wet.

Check out the BoatLife products - they actually cure BETTER is the presence of moisture. Normal splashing that would happen around your dock will be totally fine. I just wouldn't use the boat till it's fully cured as you don't want to "force" the sealant out.

Awesome! Thanks again

Tom,
Please see attached picture.

Your tab looks exactly like mine did until this AM! Your luck your mount is above water, mine wasn't so I had to do a short haul this AM.

Tom will need to see the good one retracted (up) all the way, and if possible clean it up a bit so he can see the rings going around the bottom of the upper cylinder.

Yes I need to see the other side fully retracted and know how many raised rings there are on the cylinder body. I suspect it is a standard A1101A actuator but want to be sure.

Okay, but it will be 2 weeks until I'm available to get picture.

Thanks,

Terry

Tom,
Please see attached picture. By feel, there are 4 raised rings. The picture clearly shows 3 but a 4 ring is there, barely visible.

Terry

That is a standard Bennett A1101A actuator. Just about all marine dealers carry it or can get it for you.

Thanks, I found one at West Marine. Also, I'm thinking of just removing the cylinder from the top bracket and replace it with the new cylinder. any thoughts on that.?
