Sea Trial went a little south...overheat...

Looking at a '95 250 Sundancer w/ the 7.4L BIII. Took her out today and from cruise to WOT temp went from 170 to 210 in just under 20 sec. Got the alarm, brought her to idle for about 10 sec then shut her down. Boat got new impeller, risers, manifolds, thermostat about 19 months ago and saw 2 hours on the water since. 436 hours on motor, saltwater, dry storage. Here's the email that went to the owner of the facility today:

"Just finished the long drive home after the sea trial today- a hearty India Pale Ale is washing away the disappointment of today's evolution. I stopped by to grab a minute of your time on my way out for a quick passdown but no joy. Wanted to pass the following feedback-

- Overheat condition manifested itself just above 3k rpm. Below that, she stayed just below 170 deg; any increase above resulted in rapid temp rise. From cruise to WOT, temp went from 170 to 210 in less than 20 seconds. Lee (or is it Les?) who went with me on the test-hop was aware of the overheating history but was hesitant to 'talk too much' (I understand the position he was in- no worries). Would like to hear about the fix and perform a sea trial for 15 min at cruise power followed by 5 min WOT to demostrate resolution.

- Also had one curious issue after she gets on plane. W/ both tabs full nose down, she begins to list to starboard passing thru about 15knots as though the port tab is failing to stay down (like a flap blowback). She begins to track to starboard as though the starboard trim tab is still down and resulting parasitic drag pulls her right. Port steering input exacerbates starboard list. Port nose down doesn't seem to remedy although didn't spend much time troublshooting as the heating issue became the number 1 priority for us. Recommend checking the tab deflection at full nose down as well as placing force on the port to see if it will stay down. Will need to fix this condition or show me what I was doing wrong."

Sea trial was after my $1500 deposit for vessel...they're looking at it tomorrow. Since they've offered this to me at about 8k under LOW NADA value, I am willing to stick around to see this one through.

Questions, comments, and smart remarks appreciated!

The 7.4 needs lots of cooling water.
Possibly the engine water pump or blockage/clogging.
I'd pass on this one.

Thanks guys. Taking my own in-close wave off; no sense in attempting to salvage an already bad start. Thanks for the comments!

Bet its blocked on the water inlet thru the leg - bad problem on B3's - thru hull fitting providing water inlet would sort that had same prob with mine ! (7.4MPI B3 leg )

Was there a reason to respond to a thread that was over 2 years old?

Well maybe someone reading this may have had the same symptoms ? and I certainly found it interesting reading , I thought that was the idea of these forums was to pass on information to help others ? ? ? ( regardless of when the thread started ) Surely if helps someone even 10 years down the line it is worth sharing your experiences .

Oh, no, I knew it was 2 years old when I gave him advice on how to handle a problem with the sea trial. These things take time. Honestly, I think I've done the same. Now, back to that Skeeter thing.
