Securing Swim Ladder?

Something tells me the solution to my problem might be ridiculously obvious because I can find *nothing* about it anywhere online or in these forums...

The swim ladder on my 175 Sport keeps sliding out while underway. I only acquired the boat a year ago and do not recall this being an issue last season. Is there supposed to be a clasp? A latch? Some way to secure it? Did something fall off?

Thanks in advance for any help....

Thanks, Bill, for the reply — much appreciated. Mine is different. Though it is telescoping, it slides in straight under the swim platform rather than flipping up and forward like yours. I could post a photo but there’s not much to see!

The boat is in the water at the dock for the season so I can’t really eyeball what may be going on underneath, but I am unable to feel anything that seems like it would be a latch connection or anything. I’m stumped. And it’s a problem because it not only slides out but of course folds down as well, creating obvious problems at low tide...

We're going to have to see a picture. The 175 Sport has a ladder that flips onto the top of the platform, into a recessed area so it is basically flush with the top of the swim platform. Plus, with the design of the hull, there is no area below the platform for the ladder to slide.

Also... what's your HIN? You may not have a Sea Ray... there are some knockoffs out there...

EDIT: Just saw the link that Bill posted. Thanks, Bill. That is the type of ladder/platform/hull design you should have if it was a 2009 Sea Ray 175.

Oh... for those types of ladder that DO slide under a platform, I've seen various ways of securement... A latch on the underside of the bottom run that slides... a red button on the bottom post... a rubber strap or bungee cord...

It's not too hard to see - stick your head over or just get in the water.

Such a helpful community! Thanks, guys.

OK yes, I do have the same “channel” configuration, but of course the ladder placement is superseded by the swim platform... The swim platform is evidently after-market (branded “swimplatforms.com”). Probably ought to be inquiring there, huh...?

Ah-ha! Now, see, more information is added and it clears up the issue! :)

Look at the middle of the bottom rung. See that little post? There is (or was) a rubber strap that stretched over that post to secure the ladder.

Answers at last! Nice to know I’m not crazy! (Well, perhaps the jury is still out on that one...). Rubber strap! My new pursuit.

Thanks so much!

You're welcome. Now, if my memory serves, that ladder is made by Windline. Go to their website and see if you can locate your ladder. If the rubber strap truly is missing/broken, you should be able to get a new strap from them.

Yes, definitely missing. And unclear to me how it even gets attached... There appears to be just a nub or a pin on the bottom rung, and one on the underside of the platform, but nothing that looks / feels like it would actually secure anything to it. We’ll see. Off to Windline — thanks again for the tips and sources!

Yes, you have an aftermarket extended swimplatform and looks like the original ladder was removed and a different installed under the extended swimplatform.
