Boat Info
1989 Sundancer 340
Engines
Twin 454 Mercruisers with v-drives
We currently have an 89 340DA. 1 daughter (usually with a friend), 1 wife, 2 dogs. Usually at least one one other family with a kid or 2. We usually only spend one night out at a time because things get a little tight but would like to be comfortable for the entire weekend or longer. Don’t need a lot more room but would like 2 private staterooms, stall shower, larger fridge, and few if any ladders (mostly for the dogs). Definitely need gen and AC. We love the open cockpit of the Sundancer but prefer the windows and light of a larger bridge or aft cabin boat. Budget around $80k.
We are on the Ohio River. Mostly short trips to an island or a cove, lots of time swimming off the back. Not a lot of time in the cabin.
Is there a Sea Ray that will still fit in our budget or am I stuck looking for another brand?
Any advice?
Thanks!

the mid-late 90's 370DA's come to mind. I've been on them and they have most, if not all, of your wishlist. Still a sundancer, so you have to continue to deal with the cave, but they're beamy and stable. Don't let the 3' increase in the model name over your last boat steer you away as it should live quite a bit larger than your 340. You might also find a later model 380DA in that price range and I believe they are similar to the 370 in size and weight

Late 90s 400 Sundancer with gas can be bought in that range, maybe diesels too. 2 heads, full shower stall.

Now may not be the best time to be moving up with a semi-tight budget! Prices are high, inventory low. It's the wild west out there :)

Thanks for the tips. I’ll check them out. I looked at the 370 and 380s last night. Neither look to have an actual door for the mid/aft “cabin”. Anyone know what model you need to look for to find proper doors for both cabins? Single head is fine but would like the privacy for the cabins.

Though rare there are some mid-90's 370's out there with the pocket door on the midcabin. Finding one may be nearly impossible though. Aside from that I think you need to move up to the 400/410 to get the solid door. I may be wrong but I don't believe the 380's ever had the solid door...

Yup, as Stee said - sounds like you are looking for a 400/410! You won't be disappointed (although I think we're both a little biased)

to set expectations - when I was looking I certainly found 400's at the 80-100 range but almost all of them were a little rough around the edges. Seats were dirty, minor tears, grungy bilge, etc. That's not to say they're bad boats or not worth your time but you'll want to understand what kind of work you have going into them.

I paid a premium for ours but even then I had work to do to bring it up to our standards, but the bones are solid and its very well optioned.

Our 360 ('02) has a privacy door for the master stateroom. The aft cabin has a privacy curtain. Works for us.

Thanks for the input. Checked out another aft cabin boat tonight and for now have decided to stay focused on the express models. Wife changed her mind and said a curtain will be fine for the second cabin but we still want a door for the main cabin. The search continues...
