This is the second time this happened. Doing multiday trips on the water.
I get water in the valve covers. Turns all pasty white on the filler cap.

I show no water on the dip stick or signs of water in the oil.
But the oil filters oil is a light brown not quite milky but looks like a water contamination to me.

Someone told me this is normal. Happens to there race boat every time.
Last time this happened I showed a sample of the whiteish brown oil to a mechanic..
He said, I was just overdo on a oil change.
I had just dumped the oil out of my filter. Thought it was full of the nasty looking oil. Looks like maybe filter was 50% full of the nasty stuff.

Can water work its way into the oil through a leaking riser?
Or is this just maybe condensation problem?
Ive had a seeping riser forever. Outside only hopefully.
Four attempts at a fix, But still seeps.

My next thread may be Best Quality aftermarket risers.
Too much work dropping in my 8.1 at this time.

Does you engine have a pcv valve or a breather assembly? If it's clogged or not working correctly, the gases will not be vented properly from your valve cover area.

Another thing to do is a pressure check. You could have a bad head gasket or leaky riser gasket.

Here's the contaminated oil pics

PCV valve is good.
I do have a leaky riser.

I would go towards the leaky riser. You could risk hydrolocking the engine as well.

That oil definitely doesn't look good.

What kind of (4) attempts were made at fixing the leaking riser? Did you replace the manifolds/risers with new?

If your mechanic looked at that oil and just said you were due for an oil change, you need to find a new mechanic. That's definitely water-contaminated, and I wouldn't want that stuff lubricating my engines.

I've done several replacements of manifolds and risers and never had an issue with leaking. Are you trying to re-use old ones, or are you having problems with the new ones leaking?

As Doug said, that riser could "let go" and dump a bunch of water- then it's new engine time. I wouldn't run it until it's fixed.

Ive changed the riser gasket three times.
Resurfaced the risers gasket surface once.
Just keeps developing a weep.

Normally I would have replaced everything.
But I knew I was going to repower. So I kept trying gasket changes with different sealers to stop the leak.
You cant seal a warped riser.:lol:
At least I didnt pay someone 100.00 hr with the same outcome or worse. :wow:

I met three boaters that mentioned what a genius this one Mechanic is.
I tried giving him the benefit of the doubt.
(Maybe take a short break from some wrench turning)
I showed him water contaminated oil two years ago. He said it was only dirty  BS
Two years ago he said he charges 1000.00 for a repower.
Buy my new engine. Now he wants 2300.00 for the repower.
Bought my engine hoist today, Like always, If I want it done right. Got to do it myself.
Thank goodness, Ive only had mechanics touch my stuff like 6 times in 36 yrs.

Thanks for the tips,
Your right, Theres no way i'm going to sea again with that riser. Ordering a new one on Monday.
Not replacing everything because I have another engine waiting to drop in.
