We took a look at a new 340, it's big and beautiful :smt038 but also darn expensive :smt089

As most know, you can't get the camper canvas with any Sundancer that supports V-drives.

So we really like how the camper top extends the rear bimini on our 300 and want to have the same shade on the new boat. Has anyone solved this? Maybe had a extended bimini made or an entire camper. Or some more cleaver solution.

BTW the two 340's at the dealer have the soft top option for the bimini. This looks nice from the outside. There are no poles showing. But in the cockpit it looks a bit industrial, the soft top frame is big metal tubes and plates bolted into the arch.

A friend did something clever with his 310 DA.

He drilled a hole in the top of the cockpit table, just above the tube that suports the table. Then he took a rectangular patio umbrella, one with a pivoting shaft, and stuck it into the hole (he'd drilled the hole so it made the umbrella shaft a tight fit).

Now he has the canvas on the arch shading the middle and forward parts of the cockpit, and the umbrella shades the aft parts. It is a very nice looking thing, too.

He only uses this in the slip or at anchor.

jrc, Kim (the canvas guy at Irwins) has done a bunch custom campers. They've come out really nice. He can do pretty much anything you want. We'll probably have one done next spring. I think the price is around $4,000.

That boat's a leftover (like mine was) so there may be a good deal to be had.

I heard the 320 had a 20K rebate, but have no heard on the 340...that for the info.

the kickback from Searay is 20K but it expires real soon. That boat is $324K before the rebate, $331 for the one with a blue hull.

... and one year later with 60 to 100 hours it is worth no more than $180 at best ... :smt101

I would also expect the 340 is up for a redesign next year ...

Anyway, this thread has pics of my camper, which is probably the most common custom made camper. Our canvas shop makes them for around $4K. Depending on where you are you can get them from $3 to 6K

We waited on a factory left over till Febuary and saved over 30% over cost. Was 229 paid 161 ! For extended season check out Taylor Made Fast Back top. We purchased one right away and just love the extra room it afords us. Sorry link would not attached.

The wife has now decided that the 340 is too similar to the 300 we already have. Plus there's a few things she doesn't like, so we're looking around. I think the 330 is a little too small and it's the same price as the 340 because of the rebates. There's only a few "big" cruiser dealers to choose from on the lake so this should be interesting.

That's what the salesman gets for not giving his best price first, gave us time to think about it.
