I am wondering if anyone has any experience sharing a slip with someone else. I normally trailer my boat and have never gotten a slip, other than transient. I don't want to get one for the whole season because of the money and commitment, so I was thinking maybe I could find someone else in a similar situation that wants to split a season - or someone that is going to be gone or pulling their boat out for a month or so and wants to rent their slip.

Has anyone tried this? Am I asking for trouble? Will the marina even allow it? If it's a good idea, does anyone around Holland - Saugatuck - Port Sheldon want to split one?

Your advice is appreciated!

If you have a marina in mind then ask if they'll allow it. I guess, if you make simple arrangement with your partner it'll only help. For example, half of the season his and the other hafl is yours, or alternating every month. Other than that marina can say it's too complicated.

It's an idea to split the cost for trailering boats, but be ready that you might like it and would want to have one for the whole season

Good luck.

I would guess no to a marina allowing the sharing without two signatures or contracts, but ask the marina first..you know things like liability, insurance etc.

Friends of ours did that at the marina where our yacht club is. Neither kept their boat at the marina but wanted a place to slip for the meetings without paying a transient overnight slip fee.

The marina was OK with it for a while but then said no, one boat, one slip holder/payer/one insurance policy. Check with the marina first before you do this as my guess is they will not approve it. Though in this market, if they are hungry maybe they will.

thanks for the advice guys, and good point Alex, I might get addicted! Another option is to see if the marinas will simply rent a slip for something like a month or two. I guess I didn't think of that before. I am not sure if they would do that either, but like you said Mrs. Robinson, they are hungry.......

When I had my 240DA we eventually started renting transient slip for weekends. We liked it and when I asked for a month at the end of the season (last month) the marina gave me unreasonable quote. So, for the upcoming year we took the slip for the whole season. You can always try. It doesn't cost anything to ask questions. Now that business is slower they may give you good deal for a month or so.
