Any feedback on the durability of the Sherwood 26000k versus the OEM Cummins 3972366 impeller? My experience with the Cummins is two seasons at 110 hours per season (220 plus hours between replacement). I am ready for my next replacement and the Sherwood appear to be a bit less expensive....but do they hold up? Your results? Thanks for your input.

Here's an option for you based on my recent experience......

I've always replaced impellers every two seasons. Previously in March '09 the impellers that I removed looked perfect (they were Cummins brand). I replaced them with the same and ran the boat again for two seasons, 2009 and 2010 (Great Lakes, 75-100 hrs. per season). This time the result was far different because the rubber vanes were disintegrating and I'm still trying to find one last impeller piece. Despite this the engine temperatures never rose above 160 on either side even though both impellers had pieces of the vanes missing or torn.

As a result of this experience, I replaced the Sherwood 1730 pumps with Seamax 1730 pumps. In my opinion they appear to be much better built and have a more robust impeller design. It is splined as well so you don't lose the key down the intake hose (note: I managed to do exactly that on both sides on the initial attempts with the Sherwoods until I learned to remove the entire pump for easier "on the bench" service.) The new pumps seem to push a lot more water but my job was done at the end of the season so we'll see better next year.

Sorry, I tried to post photos but it did not work through photobucket. James

I just went thru the same thing Impellers were replaced 2 years ago and it is time for new ones. I went to MM and was told the same thing that Cummins impellers are Sherwood repackaged and over priced . Cummins thru MM $252 ea and associateddiesel.com $ 93 ea these were Sherwood 27000K

Thanks for all the input. Found Sherwood on line for $128 ea. (26000k) vs. Cummins local dealer price of over $150.

Gentlemen:

I have been searching for a forum that could help me.. Maybe this is the one. Here is my dilemma.

Can anyone here tell me about the SEAMAX 1730 pumps for my 6BTA Cummins Diamond. I've about had it as to buying another Sherwood 1730 pump only to see it fail in 100 hours or less.

I am not into aftermarket parts one bit, and do not wish to be led astray by an ad ( I was searching around in "google"). I want the real skinny. Is there one for this pump?

Never heard of the pump name or the company. My Cummins mechanic says to stay away from after market parts. He keeps telling me OEM, but they all leak water before the year is out.

Please, only a first hand experiences with the pump, or the company. I'm tired of spending money on phony claims and companies.

Any real life experience or comments on the manufacturer? Never heard of them.

Super pissed off in Texas and I am just about thinking of suing someone at this point, (LOL). Ever been super frustrated? Well, I'm way past that right now !

Marine Nut,

After seeing a number of Cummins powered boats using the Seamax pumps, I decided to do a little research, just as you are now doing. Although I had not had any over-heating problem (freshwater boating), I was dealing with disintegrating impeller vanes and decided to install the Seamax pumps at the end of the season. I have yet to run a full new season with them but they do pump a lot more water than their Sherwood O.E.M. counterparts.

Check it out at www.Boatdiesel.com or this link http://sbmar.com/Products/SM-Pump-History.php. Let us know what you think.
