I have had an ongoing problem with my throttle/shift lever. I have 1989 Alpha I/Gen I. It is a Quicksilver control box. No matter how tight I get the set screw in the bottom, the lever will not lock into place. This season in order to shift or use throttle, I must push in on the whole lever while shifting. otherwise there is so much slop that the whole lever will move in every direction without moving the cables. I had this problem a few years back and thought I had it fixed. This year, big problems again.
Is there something other than the set screw that holds the lever on? It does not seem right that the screw is the only thing holding it together. Is there a snap ring or something that is not catching?
Any help is appreciated.
