To engage outdrive after warmed up do I just pull out little knob behind shifter?

Had to swap out 1981 truck carb to factory quadrajet and do a little mod on linkage. All seems well but it's just old handicapped me and terminal at that dealing with it.

Thanks in advance. I'll crawl back in if picture is needed but im used up now lol

Thanks for responding. I'll crawl back up in the morning as beat from wrenching and dealing with lung rejection but will indeed include photo.
'Just went back and looked at your info; I'm afraid I'm no help with the OMC controls. I'm sure someone else will chime in with the proper routine.

Yup omc not my thing. I can rebuild a merc outdrive under water but in all these years never touched a omc. I'm 99% sure that pulling out knob will switch from just throttle for warm up to engage the outdrive. Odd set up as only one throttle cable set up.
Thank all the same tho

Hmmm... '74... 225hp OMC... 307cid... that's the Chevy Marine 307 (IIRC, only OMC), and a single cable...

I'm BETTING... that you have the Electric Shift OMC.

IF that's the case, you're faced with a challenge that I HOPE... is just something simple in the electric controls. I don't remember how they fused that system, but I DO know it was problematic.

I MAY be breaking protocol, I don't know, but the info you need will likely be here:
