Hi all -

Need to ship a 32' crusier from Florida to Wash. D.C. Is 1,000 miles.
Boat is 33' long, 12,000lbs and less than 12' wide and under 13' high.
Anyone with information to help me. Am getting quotes $$3.50/mile on flatbed.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE !!

That does not sound like it could be far off the mark. I had a 32 foot boot shipped from Md. to Palm Beach 5 years ago and it was 1700.00 and fuel was alot less back then. If you go to Yachtworld.com there is a place you can click on and get quotes from transporters

$3.50 a mile isn't bad, I don't think. I have been quoted $2.50-2.75 for a 320DA when I was shopping for my old boat. But gas prices back then were at least 30% less.

Also, keep in mind you need to include haul out, tear down, and loading onto the trailer, etc. Each of those could be a few hundred, so make sure you take that into account.

That size boat needs a trailer that sits only 6 inches off the ground. This guy moved my boat a year ago from Murells Inlet, SC. to Alabama and was real reasonable a litte less than 3.00 a mile but that was a year ago. His name is Jim @ 772-201-3444. Hope this helps.

$3.00 per mile by truck VS. 1.5-2miles per gallon by water hmmmmm. works if you have the 5 days of time and a whole lot more fun.

I just had my 380 shipped from Stuart, FL to Maryland about 3 months ago for $4500. It weighs around 20,000 lbs.

Shipped my 370 from Stuart a year ago to CT on a flatbed. 1,300 miles for a bigger boat that weighs more and diesel was considerably cheaper and the total cost was north of $5,500.00. So I don't think your quote is out of line as long as you have proof of insurance and use a reputable mover.

Jetav8r,

I've purchased my 32 from Florida and transported it to NJ. I posted a thread below. Check it out, I hope it'll help.

Long Distance Boat Purchase – Sharing My Experience

The most sensitive subject is coordination and proper equipment. In short, I got a great quote, but lack of comon sense and judgement on the trocking company side added more expenses for me. Make sure they get proper trailer that sits very low. Make sure they have proper permits. There's different type of permits. Give them exact hight mesurements and refuse to take anything off other than items from the arch (not the arch itself), which is simple and the props.

Good luck,
Alex.

Good links and advice so far... the only information I have to add is annecdotal only.

I got a similiar price quote to go from DC to Clearwater for my 290 DA. So it "sounds" inline with what I was quoted

have shipped a boat three times now-a few items to watch for-they may give you a price and a date-I have found that in the past the date is "if they have a load going that way" and the date can be off by 2 to 4 weeks-you may want to confirm your delivery date-also dose the price include any and all special escort cars if needed-I was charged an extra $450 because of a detour the truck had to take based on construction. Final advice-make sure your marina is ready to unload the boat when it gets to your place-the company may charge you for wait time for them to unload-this time of year can be very busy for a marina-inspect and take pictures of your boat before and after move-also make sure you look at the pre-load requirements-may be to much information but play it safe.:smt038

Good point! I'll be putting my arch back on this weekend... :smt089

That sounds about right. Had my old Carver shipped from Cleveland to Maryland. Trip was 700 miles $2600, then $850 to take of bridge and tag all wires and cables. Then another $1200 to re-assemble the bridge. A word of advice, don't leave anything on the boat of value. I don't know if it was the driver or people inthe truck stops where he rested, but I had binoculars(that I hid) stolen, tools stolen and a few other things. Good Luck
