I have a 2008 Searay Amberjack with twin merc 5.7’s . Boat was running great all day was stop and go throughout the day, but on my last startup to head in for the day when I turned the engine keys on in the cabin I hear both the fuel pumps engage and a quick short beep on my starboard key turn but on my port engine no beep noise and that engine turns over but will not start. Starboard is fine. What does that beep mean or do?

The beep is a confirmation beep that the sounder is working for your alarm.

Question. Why do you get a beep when you turn your ignition on in the cabin? I usually get the confirmation beep when I click the start switch to the ON position at the helm.

On the starboard motor I'd wiggle the throttles a bit to see if it's in neutral. If it was in forward or reverse it probably shouldn't have turned over but what the heck hope you gave it a try anyway.

The beep is only when I turn the keys in the cabin. Then at the helm I push the start button and they start. Starboard good port just cranks. In the morning I had the same problem and the mechanic came and just pushed in the plugs on the ecm and I got the beep and the engine started fine but near the end of the day out fishing on my last startup it lost the beep and I could not get it to start again. Open the hatch pulled and replugged in the plugs but nothing this time has to come in on one engine

Think of the cabin keys as an "arming" mechanism. You really shouldn't hear the beep until you turn on the ignition switch at the helm (1st detent) after having "armed" them with the key. are you leaving the helm switches in the on position all the time?

off-topic: add your model year to your boat info so the right people can chime in.

I always leave the keys on, but when I went to restart it did not want to start so I turned the key off then back on and at that point fuel pump engaged as normal but no beep and engine just cranks over but no start. I turned the starboard key to compare and the fuel pump engaged just like the port but with the short beep and the engine started fine.

The cabin keys are always left on while I’m out and about in the water. I moly turn them off at the end of the day. When we went to start the engines back up for like the 5 th time the port did not start and I went ahead and turned the key off them back on and that’s when I noticed no short beep no engine start. Tested the starboard engine turned key off, then back on and got the beep and engine started. Checked fuel pressure at the fuel rail by pressing bipple also checked clean power line fuse it was good.
Had the same problem the other day and we pressed in the plugs to the ECM computer and we got the beep and it started. Thinking it’s a loose wire

Pull those ECM connectors off and clean the contacts.
