Should you buy a gun or not?

For carrying concealed bigger is not better. I had both a Glock 22 and Glock 27 (both .40 cal) when I was on duty but both were too big for concealed carry. Even my S&W M&P Shield is a little big for summertime carry when I'm wearing shorts and t-shirt. My step-son bought a Sig 1911 cause it was 'cool' and now regrets it cause it's useless for concealed carry unless it's very cold and he is bundled up. I have an Aliengear Shapeshift holster kit for the S&W and use the IWB configuration but when I can I prefer the Glock 22 in my Kydex OWB holster but that's only when I'm wearing a long shirt or jacket of some sort.

When I feel it necessary to actually pack a gun on my self this is it. 38 spcial loaded with hydro-shocks. Close range it’s a stopper.

Normally I carry the semi’s in the vehicle.
9mm , 40’s or what ever. But that little 38 is sure fire in my opinion.

The EMP 4 is carryable, its not a true 1911 as the barrel has been shortened and they took about an ⅛" out of the slide, frame and magazine between the breach face and the back of the slide. If you have a 9mm you know the magazines are the same as 45 ACP and have a spacer to compensate for the difference of cartridge length between the 9 and the 45. That spacer isn't there in the EMP. My previous carry was a Sig 229 and the EMP is thinner, and as I am in a 10 round state, there is no magazine diffference.

But you are right, anyone who carries an all steel government model is asking for trouble trying to conceal it.

Yeah I'm not a 1911 expert so wasn't sure the size but know the full size anything isn't good for concealment. Single stack is the easiest to conceal but if you have bigger hands you might not like the feel of a single stack. Single stacks will typically only hold 7 or 8 rounds also when you are talking compact handguns so keep that in mind too.

I carry the same gun, just in the composite frame. Super light weight.

I have that one also sir. In fact I just don't like the feel. I will post a snap to make certain its the same gun.

Been away from the forum for a while. When I read this post, I thought, “Is this a real question?”

If you are a self-reliant, independent, free-thinker who refuses to hide and wait for some unknown, poorly-trained, under-motivated, civil service, government employee to come rescue you and you your family from some lawless schmuck (or schmucks), then the only questions are: 1. What type? 2. How many? 3. Where do I get good training?

I recall watching the search for the Boston Marathon Bombers unfold in the neighborhoods of Boston. I was thinking how different that search would have gone had it taken place in a comparable sized Texas or Idaho town.

I will never hide in my closet.

Go get a reliable, expert consultant you trust (not necessarily a lawyer or a cop) and determine what “Personal Defensive Weapon” is best for you. Then go get your PDW and seek training.

Then notify your elected representatives that you will only vote with a “Pro-Self Defense” candidate.

Good luck!

Remember how many holes were in that poor guys boat where the perp was hiding?

All this gun talk, every incident in a country of 333 million is made news. It looks bad. I'm all for gun rights, concealed carry, open carry but I think most should not actually do it. Especially open carry, it looks bad. Our neighbors to the north think the minute we step from our front door we have to be armed to the teeth, bullets whizzing through the air non stop.

When one of our Canadian CSR critics mentioned where he live I was curious. He lives in a wonderful, safe place by his description. He lives in a city in an area called Halton. I looked up the stats on 'violent crime' in Halton. What I found was that the rate of 'violent crime' was slightly higher than that of the county I live in in northern Wisconsin. In fact it was slightly higher than the rate of 'violent crime' in the whole state of Wisconsin.

Speaking of bullets whizzing through the air. I remember as a kid my first year going deer hunting during rifle season. My Dad said 'If anyone shoots at you get down, take cover'. I asked 'how will I know they're shooting at me?' All he said was 'don't worry, you'll know when it happens'.
I agree with you on this one @Woody. Not the “Halton” crime rate part, but that irresponsible open carry just fuels the anti’s.

I posted earlier that I had to redo my gun safety course because I mistakenly let my firearms license expire. The instructor at the course was a good guy. Despite them not allowed to be political, he did a great job messaging the social responsibility. In a nutshell “don’t give the gun haters ammunition. Follow the rules and don’t do anything to put yourself in a headline as an irresponsible gun owner or a gun injury statistic. It ruins things for the rest of us.”

The gun safety course was pretty interesting. It was not live fire, but it was interesting to handle some of the handguns. I had never held a Model 29 .44 or a 357 Magnum. I have no interest now to own one (I don’t feel a safety need and the restrictions are too much to make it worth it. At least I will now be licensed to posses restricted firearms in Canada, in addition to the unrestricted). Some day if I do move to Florida for the winter, maybe I will change my mind.
(Sounds like I don’t need to feel any more unsafe in Northern Wisconsin than I do at home. That’s a relief. LOL)

Suicides will happen whether it's a gun or other means.
Interesting point. In fact, the missus and I were looking into Australia's gun laws to see if we could defend ourselves while over there (looking for gold). I find this in Wikipedia addressing Australia's gun laws: "Suicide deaths using firearms more than halved in ten years, from 389 deaths in 1995, to 147 deaths in 2005. This is equal to 7% of all suicides in 2005. Over the same period, suicides by hanging increased by over 52% from 699 in 1995 to 1068 in 2005." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_of_Australia)

Made in Croatia. I'll pass...

Ah, you're one of those guys. I often get guys snickering at my pistol in different training classes, but none of my Croatian ladies has failed me.

I've seen Glock, S&W, Sig and Rugers all break and not be able to finish the class...
