Our side windows are hard to slide open, and are leaky, as well as the black track is cracking in numerous places, so I guess it’s time to remove the windows are tracks are install new. Any suggestions on 1) what type of tracks and where to buy, and 2) tips on how to do the replacement? Thanks!

The product you’re looking for is called flocking. SeaRay used TaylorMade windows in the 80’s . See if you can get a complete piece out the go to their website. You will find it there. There are many posts about it on the Classic forum

You can call or email them and request a free sample. If it matches up, order what you need.

Not sure if your setup matches mine— For the sliding window, the only thing I could figure out was to remove the existing flocking, which gave a bit more room to get the window out. Slide the window open as far as you can, then pry/pull up the opposite end flocking. The flocking still under the window - pull on the piece you lifted out of the track already - and if your lucky the piece under the window will slide out. Might help to spray everything down with a bit of soap water. Installing - havent gotten there yet, but should be reverse of removal - but with lots of soapy water.

Carefully remove your weep hole covers first. They can be brittle and cost about $10 each.

Good luck. SR Got rid of our windows cause they were a structural piece like an I-beam supporting the whole upper deck. After 91 they went to port holes. The decks flexed, windows didn’t, hence they jam. My port window opens all way like new, starboard opens an inch maybe 2 in head, and no amount of tapping with hammer is getting it farther. My opinion is if you intend to replace the windows, you’re in to a lot more work than you think, as for leaks, I used to re-caulk every year.

I am sure i posted my window removal and flocking replacement about 10 yrs ago in the 300 thread. it was a lot of work but fixed the leak and the sliding issues. My dock neighbor had a leaking side window on his silverton and they removed all fasteners from the window and side and front of bridge and jacked the bridge up to remove and repair the leaks. i dont know what it cost him yet he is stored next to me and i havent seen him,he is older though i hope it dosnt discourage him from boating though.

It’s not a hard project to do. Get all the old out and clean and vacuum the track. I used hard bees wax in the track and the new flocking went right in. Clean the sliding window and wax the edges. Mine now open with ease.

Great advice and process of repair tips from y’all. Thanks! I took a close look at my windows again after reading your replies (now I know the terminology!). I think the upper portions of the windows are fine, although it wouldn’t hurt to replace the screw covers all the way around (top and bottom). From what I can tell, the flocking is a double track, with a fixed window panel in the inside track in the aft section, then a middle section with a sliding window in outer track, then a forward fixed window in the inner tract. There is a short “window” (only about 2” high) in the inner tract of the middle section. The flocking in the outer tract of the middle section is completely broken and fragmented, and prevents the moveable section of window to slide forward. Sooo, my question is, can I replace just the flocking in that outer tract, or does the flocking only come as two tracts?

It’s a whole track...U shaped if viewed from the end.

gotta pull the glass to replace.
