We have a Raymarine setup and installed the Sirius weather system a couple of weeks ago, so far I think we are going to like it – my wife thinks it is cool so there you go.

Getting started by removing the access panel under the radar mount on the hard top. Then removed the speaker from the starboard support. As noted in another post the speaker face plate (Clarion) twists off and then there are four mounting screws. Next removed the storage area right next to the helm, again four mounting screws.

The Sirius antennae is rather small and installing it on the hard top was not a problem at all. It has one cable that connects to the receiver. Getting this cable to the speaker opening on the starboard arch support was an easy run. From the speaker opening to the storage area next to the helm was a bit tougher. Had a hard time trying to get fish tape through the opening and up to the speaker, a trained squirrel would have been nice. What I noticed was there was the extra (coiled) cable from the GPS sensor neatly secured within this access area next to the helm. I could see where this GPS cable passed by the speaker opening. I attached a 10 gauge wire to the GPS cable and reversed fed it up to the speaker opening – being careful not to chafe it. Worked pretty well – fed the GPS cable back and re-secured it then fed the Sirius cable down and then onto the helm area.

At the helm I removed both dash face plates for access. The weather receiver (SR100) was an easy mount under the helm area. I also had to install a Seatalk HS switch so that the two displays (E-120) and new weather receiver could all be connected. Again, easy mount under the helm. Connected both to the power distribution panel under the helm. From the Seatalk standpoint, everything was really kind of “plug and play”. The weather receiver plugs into the switch along with each display. Kind of like an Ethernet type plug.

Once connected and powered up called the 800 number in the Sirius manual set up an account and within about 20 minutes we were receiving the weather data. So far I think it is great. Love having the “Doppler Type” information along with current and projected pressure systems. There is an animate feature that takes the data points and produces a loop so you can see what the trends are. One thing I noticed is that initially this “loop” is fairly short but the longer the system is on the more data is downloaded and the longer the loop is. Major data for display is Precipitation, pressure, winds, lighting, marine forecasts, weather warnings – and more.

We are starting a 2 week trip in a few days so will be using the system quite a bit. We will make some notes and post our thoughts on it. Try to get some screen shots as well.
