I spilled my coffee on my carpet last weekend and need to give my carpets a good overall cleaning. I have a hoover carpet cleaner I used in the past, I just laid the carpets out on the garage floor and went to work and let them air dry. They only came out OK.

My buddy took his from his 260DA to the laundry mat a couple bucks, some Tide and 22 minutes later and they look like new. He also let his air dry.

I am worried about damaging the rubber backing, they are 7 seasons old.

Any thoughts or suggestions???

Thanks
John

In a washer I'd worry about something rubbing or getting caught - JMO

A little oxiclean and a pressure washer makes mine look brand new.

Skip the laundrymat & forget the Hoover. Lay them out in the driveway, saturate them with water. Soap them up with a carpet shampoo & use a brush if needed on any problem areas. If you have a presure washer great! Just don't go overboard with it.

The most important step...Rinse them thouroughly. When you think you are done, rinse them some more. Hang them up somehow to drip/air dry & you are good to go.

I too brought mine home and laid them out on the deck, rinsed them well, took carpet shampoo and brush on a pole, scrubbed them good, then rinsed and rinsed some more with the pressure washer.....
FYI, be careful with the pressure washer.... You don't want the backing to separate from the carpet.

Has anyone ever had a cleaning company like Stanley Steemer clean them? I am going to have them come in and do the interior carpet but I will have to pay the min. charge so I figured maybe they could do the cockpit carpets also?

Yes, I learned the hard way... Those guys that will come out and do your whole house for $99... I called them down to the boat last year when it was in the yard and all of sudden because of a marine application it's now $250.00 !!!!

This year I went to my local Ace Hardware store and rented the machine with furniture attachment and did just as good if not better then the guy for $250.00. My total bill under $50 and I did my motorhome too !!!

I use my home "Kärcher" high pressure cleaner! No kidding it works very well. Just reduce pressure a bit. All sand, salt and stains gone after.

Skip the soap and just use a pressure washer with clear water. I been cleaning my boat carpets (on my last three boats) that way for the last eight years and they have never failed to come clean.

No need to over do it. Medium pressure will make them look brand new

I do it with a bit more pressure and try to lift the carpet slings with the waterjet. Then when dry, the carpet has much more volume and it is more fleecy. Hope your guys undersand what I mean with my poor English.

I have the carpets cleaned by cleaning companies in the past and found that the rubber backing dried up very fast as started falling off. I would hand shampoo them.

We had some old ones that were in good shape and we tried a bunch of different carpet cleaners. None of them got the stains out. The Admiral discovered vinegar and decided to try it. The stains are GONE! Of course, it's sort of salad smelling, but the vinegar carved through a lot of things the carpet cleaners just couldn't get out. We rinsed thoroughly and then let it air dry. I can't imagine the vinegar doing much to the backing, but these are in good shape despite their age and now they look great! I just wonder how long the vinegar smell will stick around?

It seems like some of the other cleaners are hard to rinse out and attract dirt, as mentioned above when you think you are done rinsing, rinse it again!

I use 303 vinyl protectant on the back...same carpets since '01. Be careful though, when you take the carpets up the deck will be slllipppery!
