So HP is racist?

This has got to be a joke on there part.

Wow, what a public relations blunder.

I disagree about a PR blunder as this is after all a U-boob video. Not enough information is given about this camera, and it's setup etc.

Typically from my experience, cameras, in the simplest terms can have there weighted focal points changed. Is there a set up procedure prior to first use. The camera is using an algorithm which is performing some type of contrast analysis is my guess. The amount of light versus dark. It i ssimilar to the old days with automatic color film developing and pranskters painting their faces blue, taking the photo's and then sending them in for processing, they really recieved some strange photo's back. There was nothing wrong with the processing equipment, but the equipment could not make an accurate determination of what the faces should look like.

I am not interested in PC's and cameras, so I have no desire to research this any further. For me my mantra is less is more. There is already way to much personal knowledge becoming public... I am not a fan of CCTV's everywhere one goes, phone video records etc.

Was it "1984" or "Fahrenheit 454" which foretold of these events and "Big Brother?"

This is absolutely bogus.... HP is NOT racist... Anyone that uses them for support(like me) knows that they have entirely embraced using Indians and other nationalities for support wherever it's cheapest, whenever they can. My support calls have gone from 15 minutes, to way over many hours to do a system crash evaluation. Their main engineering team for HP OpenVMS support is entirely Indian based.

HP is NOT racist... but I wish when I'm on the third person I can't hardly understand going thru the same basic troubleshooting menu for the third time, at 2AM in the morning on a weekend, that they were.

Their old Customer Support Center based out of Atlanta and Colorado Springs (both of which they've now shutdown - just open on m-f 9-5?) was much better/faster/more experienced/easier to deal with /easier to understand.

Hmmm, maybe I am. No, I just want someone I can talk to that can understand me, and I can understand, when I have a critical hospital system's ER room down that needs to be back up and running ASAP. Someone with a little more than a troubleshooting script to follow.

After viewing the vid. It was obvious to me that the HP was tracking females and not males. cheers ... Ron

If they are racists wouldn't it be the other way around...

How come the image was reversed? Look at the red/white sign behind and above them - look at his name tag. And, what were those green rays of reflection between them and the camera about? I absolutely don't know if that has anything to do with anything... just thought that it was odd.

This video is what's wrong with America, and why companies are taking their mfg offshore. These 2 are just stupid.

Customer Feedback is Important to Us

Frosty yesterday PM

The technology we use is built on standard algorithms that measure the difference in intensity of contrast between the eyes and the upper cheek and nose. We believe that the camera might have difficulty “seeing” contrast in conditions where there is insufficient foreground lighting.

The guys name tag is reversed as well but this is just a simple setting for all digital recorders & web cams that I have seen. I never understood the need for such, but again it is a simple check box when setting up the system.

As for the video itself - This is why this crap is marked up so high. We gotta pay Mary Lou & Jim Bob $14.50 an hour to fart around all day in the supply room.

That's pretty damned funny. Nice to see that the guy had a cool sense of humor about it. I'm sure that there is an easy solution like getting out of that flat fluorescent lighting, and adjusting the brightness, contrast, and gamma settings on the camera.

Makes me wonder if it works for some of the folks in HP tech support. Some middle easterners have very dark skin, too.

That video was pretty darn funny!! I think it may have to do with being bald more than being black! :):) lol. [hey, joe's bald and he told me to write that!] haha.
