Yea, I know, I know.....but PLEASE settle this for my wife and I.......

My lovely lady thinks our recently acquired boat is missing the speaker covers that "belong" in the boat and stern seating areas, and that they would match the ones we do have in around the helm and head area. Those are kind of a gray cloth that cover the speakers, the rest are exposed, like the aft subwoofer speakers on each side of the walk-through to the swim platform. Now THOSE we agree should be exposed. The speakers are all "Polk" brand, if that makes any difference.

Anyway......I don't know if the year of the boat effected changes, but it's a 2009, so if any of you guys happen to have a 2009 270 SLX that would be ideal for comparison, obviously! But I'll take whatever I can get!

I don't see anywhere a speaker cover would even fit in....she DOES, (there is a small indent) so go figure THAT out.

Hope you guys don't feel you all have to drop what you're doing, or pack your briefcase and leave your office to go to your boat to see for yourself. It's not THAT urgent! But I will look forward to hearing from you!

All speakers should be covered in one way or another so the actual speaker itself doesn't get damaged. Are you asking if they should all be covered with material or an actual speaker cover? If so I'd say yes, they should all have some type of protector covering them, be it material or a factory cover.

Except for the ones beside the passenger and driver seat, there are plastic grills which go on the speakers. They are not solid so you still see the black speaker material. They sort of look like 6 spoke hub caps.

Those sound like wake board boat speakers. In that boats are as unstable as my Admiral says I am, I would prefer my speakers covered. A busted grill is much cheaper than a busted speaker.

Every 270 I have seen with the Polk stereo upgrade only has the plastic speaker "grills". I believe all of the speakers are exposed versus hiding or concealed behind some sort of fabricate. But they should have plastic grills.

Well guys, here's what my wife and I did in an attempt to prove our case to each other......if I took the time I could post the pics, which I'll do if anyone actually cares to see them, but here is what we discovered......

In MOST cases, the speakers look EXACTLY like ours, with the plastic circular "grill" type cover that allows you to see the speaker but protects it, more or less, from damage. (Less than more IMHO.)

In SOME cases, maybe the NON-Polk speaker installations, there are indeed "cloths" across the speakers where we have the "grills".

We DO have those "cloths" across the speakers at the helm, but everywhere else it's the "grills", so maybe that's done in that area no matter what type speakers you have.

But I'm thinking with the Polk speakers, you get "grills", with everything else, you get "cloths".
