Howdy folks,

It's that time of year - so many spiders on my boat while parked in the slip!
I spent the afternoon cleaning the boat just a few days ago.
When I took the boat out last evening, it was already covered in spiders & webs!

Can you recommend a good spider/insect repellent product?

Thanks in advance!

I've got the same problem and am looking for a good solution too. Something that won't damage the canvas as the spiders seem to like the corners of the canvas best.

I should have been more specific. Agreed - they love the canvas, and I'm wondering what to use that won't harm it!

Dryer sheets. Really. Put a few around the boat and the spiders stay away. Plus the boat smells nice and fresh.

We live in wine country in the Okanagan, BC. At all of the wineries here, they plant a rose bush at the end of each row of grapevines. It keeps the spiders away from the plants. So, we planted one in a planter behind the boat. It actually works! The spiders go to the roses and not the boat. I still have the issue on the bow because its far away from the stern. So I use CIL spider spray on the anchor and they stay away.

I use a product called Home Defense. I think it's from Ortho. I spray all around the three sides of the slip, slip-mounted fenders, dock lines where they attach to dock cleats, etc. I don't really have to spray the boat because the spiders don't seem to get there.

Alright, thanks folks! Going to try dryer sheets, and Home Defense ASAP!

All the best!

We use "Peppermint Oil". Comes in a small bottle. Use entire bottle in quart sprayer mix with water and a few drops of dish detergent . Spray everything down. Works well.
I plan on trying the dryer sheets in combination.

Heard dryer sheets work but Ive never tested it. I can say we have never had a spider in the laundry room. Anyone else ever try the hedge apple method besides me?

Dryer sheets work great for inside the boat, but what about on the outside of the canvas? I'm gonna try the Home Defense along the dock and on the pilings, maybe like stated above it will keep the from getting to the boat at all.

We use an insecticide sprayer that you attach to a garden hose. Look for one that kills spiders and is safe for garden produce. It takes 5 minutes to soak our dock, lines and the pilings. When we return from a month of cruising, we do the same with the boat and dock. 24 hours later we wash the boat. We are pretty much spider free all season. I also squirt Home Defense on a clean rag and wipe areas beneath the hardtop and canvas where spiders like to hide.

After getting back to the marina from my overnight trip, I left several dryer sheets in various places in the cockpit & canvas. I also sprayed the dock lines and nooks/crannies where spiders like to hide with repellent. I'm leaving on a business trip for the week, so will be anxious to see the results upon my return!

If this didn't work, I will try a few of the other methods that folks mentioned on this thread.

Thanks all!

I buy two boxes of dryer sheets, open them, and put them in the storage shelf around the sides of the cabin. One box on each side. Never seen a spider in the cabin.

all into to dryer sheets - thank you all for the insight. Will see how it works out and report back. Great thing about this sight - always learning something.

I use Terro spider killer spray in orange can on lines and all around dock about once a week. Very good. No spiders. Have not used directly on cover but I assume it would be fine.

Try a insecticide called Tempo, farm stores use it around my town and they swear by it, and now so do I!

I have spiders on the dock near the power connection and water hose hanger. I put a couple of drier sheets out tonight to see if they would do anything. I fully expect to see the spiders all over the sheets tomorrow ....haha...

It's been three days! What the results?
