Springtime shine 2024

I’m actually breaking free from work tomorrow and going to the boat for the weekend….. I did pay for the blue and I’ll pay for the white next year but the white needs a little attention this year…. Nothing crazy just the hard stuff I can’t get to at the dock…… plus I just want to hang out…. Change zincs that kind of thing

There are worse ways to spend a weekend. I am patiently waiting for my high and dry to open on the 15th so I can change the oil and get the detailer in there.

Don't even get started I just waxed mine last year and didn't get to use it because my fall at work, that I had and Summer's coming up again I'm still not even cleared to go back to work or wax the boat or do anything ,lovely

On Cape Cod we got one little snow storm about 8 in ,and that was it, a lot of preparation for one storm but you never know could get two feet sometime in March lol

My marina opens back up this weekend (closed on weekends Dec-Feb). Not a lot to do, I do have to wax, I did not get anything done on that in the fall. I'm still a wax guy -- boat is in very good shape from indoor storage, so it's one coat of cleaner wax followed by Meguiars Flagship. Then a few spray wax applications through the summer.

I do all of the annual type maintenance in the fall, so hopefully she just fires up.

Last season was the first using Smoove products. I compounded using their “Pro-cut 2500”, then made one pass using the “Bubble Gum Micro Polish.” Used a drill and a circular brush attachment for the non-skid and then finished with BG. I’m sold on Smoove products. All summer when washing the boat I used Smoove Purpleicious boat wash with a foam cannon and it worked out great. When we pulled her last October, she was still shining.
This off season I only had to lay on one coat of BG and she is ready to go. The pictures are from the completed buff and wax with BG this year.

I’m still using Smoove products ….everything except compounding. I like this stuff better…. From Germany…. Just like smoove with no mess to spray or dust up

+1.

This is what my boat looked like when I put it away last fall. Smoove holds up over summer. I'm definitely a fan.

I used these to get the stuck arms off
FIRSTINFO F3393 Patented Universal Windshield Wiper Arm Puller/Battery Terminal Removal Tool-Heavy Duty, Adjustable, Made in Taiwan https://a.co/d/aIVhDNN

There is a conical knurled insert that may come off with the arm.. no big deal if it does, just fyi.
So I attempted to tackle this project today. I was able to get 3 of the 4 arms off. The knurled inset stayed on the shaft, which I think is a good thing. I was unable to get the knurled piece off, so I just put the new rubber boot over the shaft and slid it down to the nut. I put a little grease on the shaft and threads and on the knurled piece. I think I'm going to get the puller you suggested. What the heck do you do if the knurled piece comes off with the arm and is stuck up in there? I'll keep you posted.

If I recall, one of my knurled pieces stayed in the arm while the others remained on the shafts. It didn't really make a difference, just a touch trickier putting the arms back on the shaft. Mark the location of the blade on the windshield with a piece of tape so you put back in same location.

Got mine done yesterday. Stored indoors so not much in the way of oxidation - I did see a trace of black on my pad after the cleaner wax. I have a random orbital buffer and use the Lake Country foam pads. My process is Mequiars 56 Cleaner Wax followed by Mequiars Flagship. Then during the season, I will hit it with the Mequiars Marine spray wax a few times. For touch ups I started keeping a bottle of 303 Marine detailer. It's good for wiping down water spots and the interior fiberglass and glass surfaces. I love this black boat, but the thought of this thing sitting outdoors scares me - would have to with a different color if that ever happened. I am a little sore today, but not quite ready to pull out the special tool$ for this work. I still enjoy it on a sunny early spring day!
My old Lexus you see in the reflection was not liking the attention the boat was getting!

So I've been using Starke products over the last couple of season and couldn't be happier. The main reason is I get my supplies from Marine Detail Supplies Port Clinton Oh. It's nice dealing with a shop like this because they keep a record of the products you've used over the years and they tell you what you need. The owner loves what he does and it shows. Plus they know their products and tell you buff speed how long to stay on the product to give you the best outcome.

My hull was painted with Awlgrip by the previous owner and I remember reading somewhere not to buff it. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of tackling the springtime shine job myself this season since I've always had issues getting a detailer to tackle it in previous years. I either get the FU price or a runaround.
