everything seems ok however, my starboard transmission has lways made more noise than my port. Regardless of fwd or revers. No noise in neutral. Not a lot of noise but not silent like the port. Am I alone in this?

Your starboard transmission has an extra set of gears to reverse the rotation of the prop shaft. That accounts for the noise.

Rip - on my 410, the port was the louder of the two - just between 1300-1600 RPM. Hottoddie - I thought it was the port one that ran in reverse...

Also, if you have an engine synchronizer, it can make a rattling noise due to the rotating parts.

On a straight shaft inboard the engine rotates left. So the port prop rotates left as well. If a Vdrive the engine rotation would need to be reversed to keep the port prop rotating left as it should.

It is kind of a rattling noise at the low rpm range. Samples have been good. I feel a little better. Thank you.

My 1999 v-drives: The port engine is the counter-rotating engine (LEFT HAND as it's designated) AND the prop also spins left. I know this becuase it's the unit I am currently replacing. The tranny's don't like running in reverse quite so much and the counter-rotators have a higher fail rate..... or so I'm told.
