Sticky Smelly Slime in gray tank

Many years ago I heard that SR made a "lake boat" that was made without a generator, no way to discharge overboard and had black and gray water tanks. Not the kind of shower sump tanks we're talking about here but a genuine gray water holding tank. That's what I thought the OP might have.
In many years, the "grey water system" was a simple, line item option that could be selected when ordering a boat. It wasn't a different boat - just a regular 'ol option. All drains would be collected (nothing overboard) and routed to shower sumps - the shower sumps would pump into the grey water holding tank.

Thanks for all the advice. I have not but will try the chlorine tablet. I hadnt thought about that yet. Im sure its from the soap, shampoo, and conditioner that goes down the shower drain. I have tried the bleach, vinegar, even tried the liquid septic tank stuff.
Slime attracts mold and mildew so adding bleach or a chlorine puck is only going to kill the bacteria and eat away at your plastic components and leave the slime fresh and clean. There are 3 effective ways in dealing with soap scum or slime. 1. is to melt it with boiling water and flush it out. 2. Add baking soda to Boiling water 2tsp/quart soak and flush (baking soda will help kill bacteria in the corrugated pipe to the sump) and 3. as a last resort Ammonia. Unless you have some major problem the first two will solve the problem easily.
If you continue to use bar soap just clean it out every month.

After having some issues with gunk in the sump, I insisted on using only liquid soap in the shower. Haven't had slime / gunk problems since. I do need to clean hair from the screen occasionally. I was very upset when my wife was completely indifferent to using some travel bar soap on a 5 day trip last year instead of shower gel. At my first opportunity I went to the store for some Dial Gold shower gel and got the bar soap out of the shower.

There is another thread on here somewhere that says using a little
Noflex stops the slime and keeps the sump clean.

^ This. I use Unique Marine Digest-it which does what No-flex does and that keeps my sump clean.
