With delivery of our boat tentatively scheduled for next week, my wife was asking boating buddies for their thoughts on provisioning. Most replies were the typical one or two items to remember. However, Sharion Hamlin sent the following...which I think may be the best outline for any first time provisioning checklist ever written...thought I would share.

Stocking the boat........ This is what I did but you'll have more space but don't over do it.

I started with those cute nice matching plastic dishes, silverware and cups. After about 1 month of using the plastic dishes it got old because I had to wash them too. You can't let any food or grease go down the drains and we ended up getting a clog with a corn kernel. So I moved on to the nicer paper plates. I keep about 50 at a time on there. I found that made life so much easier. I however do keep one plastic plate on the boat just incase I need it. I use real silverware cause they are easy to wash.
I have 2 frying pans small and medium that will also fit the grill. When we cook bacon or sausage I cook it on the grill so it doesn't smell the cabin up.
1 pot medium with the lid.
8 forks, spoons and 4 steak knives
salt and pepper any spices I normally cook with
a mixing bowl
measuring cup
2 spatula's
2 tongs
2 spoons
cutting board
box of ziplocks the large ones
Ziplocks are great for marinading and store the left overs
Paper towels no extra stock just one roll
toilet paper I keep an extra roll in the bathroom
I buy a medium package of napkins and leave them in the pack and get them as needed.
1 roll of garbage bags
1 pot holder
3 hand towel's for bathroom and 1 for upstairs near sink and 1 in kitchen
a few plastic cups and 2 coffee cups
If your coffee drinkers you can get a small coffee maker from Target (don't forget your creamer and sugar)
lighter
flashlight
cell phone charger
sunscreen
DVD's
sunglasses
Pam for the grill
1 case of water
fantastik - this can be used on any part of the boat proven safe by Sea Ray
tools
clock battery powered
dish soap -dawn pump
hand soap pump for bathroom
coloring books for the girls -- just remember Lola will get bored sometimes during the winter mostly bring what she will play with
Night Hawk Co monitors just for backup.
extra 9 volts

Medicine
Benadryl incase some gets stung
Tylenol and advil
Thermometer
First Aid kit
kids tylenol or advil
heartburn medicine

extra towels
extra change of clothes and undies and I leave pj's on the boat for us girls incase we forget.
2 quilts and 2 blankets 4 pillows get some nice pillow cases
winter I keep fleece jackets on there for each of us.

I have figured out a system and it works for me.
I only pack clothes we need and the food we will be cooking and no more. Keep the boat picked up (constantly) After we are done I pack all the dirty clothes in a garbage bag and vaccume and seal it back up and it's ready for our next visit.I wash blankets and quilts every fourth time
I know you will enjoy it!!!
If I think of anything else I'll send it to you.

Wow, sounds like Sharon is moving ON to her boat to live there. :smt001

Hey more thought than I put into it. Just get comfortable with the boat and get to know the systems, you will find other things missing from your list. Congratulations on the 380!

Great list. Has everything we keep on board.

One exception is that I like to keep a couple of those foil pouches of tuna in the galley cabinet. Works great for those times where I am working on the boat or something and I am too involved with it to stop and get lunch. A pouch of tuna or two makes a quick high protein snack. We usually have crackers or bread and mayo on board as well. I have to admit that I like it straight out of the pouch, too.

What about the beer! Can't forget the beer!

There are two glaring omissions - a stock of adult beverages and a jar of mixed salted nuts for cocktail hours.:smt021

:smt043

While it may serve as a character indictment, I am afraid the Hamlin's knew that adult beverages and very good cigars would be the only thing I was SURE to stock.

Small (Glad) freezer containers, as well as saran wrap, and aluminum foil. The freezer containers are good for keeping small food portions in the fridge. Saves space for more beer. Also, don't forget the corkscrew. Also....keep a camera (could be disposable) and binoculars on board.

There is a funnel on my boat that has been used for many different liquids. Another thing that has been used countless times is my Leatherman tool. Go to the Dollar store and by about 4-5 pairs of sunglasses. Don't keep any of your favorite can coolers (koozies)...they will walk away.

A very sharp knife (in easy reach of the skipper), in the event that you need to cut lines that endanger your vessel, A stobe light on your life ring so it can be located at night. On the cooking side the boss keeps a crock pot for slow cooking when on the hook or at the dock.
