I want to add a bin in my engine compartment, and I have tons of room in there. Problem is, I don't want to drill holes. Any ideas on how to secure it otherwise? Thanks.

I made a board accross the front of the engine and then secured the bin to that.
The board is screwed to the stringers.

Here's my original thread on some storage Ideas I had

I'm not sure how similar your engine bay is but it may give you an idea.

Let's see picks when you're done.

Bungee cords?

Nothing to attach them to where I want to put the tub.

Todd,
Thanks, I forgot about that thread. Where you have the duffel bag strapped is the same area I want to put my bin. A friend of mine has a Chap, and it looks like they used epoxy to secure a tub to the floor of the engine compartment. I might try that. Just looking for other points of view.

Don't know what you mean by storage bin (size, shape, material)?
Are you talking about fabricating something, or shoving a Rubbermaid bin down there?

One option that might work-depending on what you're trying to do- is to 5200 small wood blocks where the hold-down screws would go to the hull (or side of the stringer?) then screw the bin to the wood blocks. No holes in the hull...

Whatever you do make it removeable so it won't impede servicing anything. If you epoxy or 5200 anything, make it some 2" x 2" small blocks(even starboard) you can screw some footman's brackets and nylon strapping for the 'bin' or whatever you decide to use.

I was thinking of the same thing in my 270 SLX. Maybe just a small "bungee net" storage bag like the one that you might install in the trunk of your car or a motorcycle storage net. I'd only keep extra oil and cleaning products in it.

Last weekend, I installed some hooks in the closet and wove bungee cord between them. Wow did that make a big difference in my ability to organize the closet. A 10-minute project that was really an improvement. I do like the bungee cord woven between cup hooks idea.

Thanks Todd. Don't know why I didn't think of putting wood blocks to attach to.

Dennis,
Which closet, the one in front of the helm or the one under the sink? I'd love to see pics.

While not the same boat, I did add a 2 foot long x 6 inch high piece of starboard (thanks Todd) using 3M 5200 to hold it in place. I drilled 1/2 " holes at the top and 1/2 " holes at the lip of the deck of the engine hatch and bungee to avoid dropping into the engine while underway. Very simple fix. I'll post photos next week.
