Any problems with laying 3HP outboard on its side for transporting? Motor is 2 stroke Yamaha with built in gas tank on top. Gas lid has closable air relief. Does fuel need to be drained completly before attempting this. Thanks for any feedback.

I have a 4hp merc four stroke with the built in tank. The manual states that I have to lay the engine tiller side down so the oil in the crankcase stays where it's supposed to. This is the way I transport mine and have not had to drain fuel to do so, and haven't lost a drop of fuel. Just keep the vent screwed shut and you should be fine. Just in case I would refer to your owners manual just to make sure.

Unfortunately, no owners manual came with it. (bought used) As mine is 2 stroke , no oil in crankcase to worry about(?) Just concerned about fuel leaking out through carb. or other places.

My Johnson 3.5 has to be stored opposite of the handle... IE handle side up. I store mine either in the engine bay or most times on the bow tied down to a couple of footman 2" loops.

See in the photo... these double for my EU2000i when going to a non power dock or anchorage... then the 3.5 goes into the engine bay..

No need to worry about laying a 2 cycle down on its side. Make sure there is no gas in the tank and you run the engine out of gas so no fuel drains out of the carb if it has one. I do this with my 3 HP Johnson with no problems.
