Summer plans?

Not yet Mike, except for maybe heading down to Chicago on July 30th for the Chicago Boat Party down in the Playpen...

Reservations for Ignace in June, Mack City in July and Rogers City in August. Need to fill in a couple more weekends likely in Ignace and Mack City. Love Ignace, especially after the car show when things are sane again.

Rogers City is probably the favorite place so far. Love the marina and town.

And yes, sorry, I realize these are not Lake Michigan...but close enough

Erik, I was googling Ignace and thinking WTF? :)

I'm hoping to spend the first two weeks of August up in Elk Rapids this summer. I had all my reservations in place last year and got smoked by the weather. Hoping second time is a charm.

Nothing else planned for me yet. Kinda wanted to make sure WWIII isn't actually a thing :)

Steve, where will you stay?
So far just thinking about a day trip. But I could make it the weekend and see if I could get a slip down there.

We’ll be camping and boating at Muskegon State Park, lakeside campground. Arriving July 21st thru the 1st.

this will be our 13th year out of 14 at Muskegon State Park Lake Michigan. I remember going there with my parents in the early 70s.

The year I missed we went to Lake Cumberland

It’s a good location for me. I can put in at Muskegon lake and take the channel out onto the big lake. This way if it’s too windy I can still be out on the boat. From the campground to the launch ramp(Snug Harbor) I can be in the water in 15 minutes.

Check out Burnham Harbor first and if no openings, a little farther south is 31st Harbor. 31st street always has slips.

Yep, I have stayed at 31st Street for a week long event at McCormick Place.

I stand corrected the date was changed, it is on August 6th 12:00-6:00

Starting out June 28th we plan to go to Frankfort, then Charleviox, want to see air show in Traverse City, will try get reservations in Elk Rapids but they don’t start until middle of May, then Harbor Springs for 4th of July, Beaver Island, want to try get up to Fayette Harbor then down to Sister Bay and work our way down the Wisconsin side, end up in Milwaukee then back to Grand Haven.
This my be our last hurrah with the boat before it goes on the market.

We will be in Charlevoix from August 4th-7th and then heading out for a week of harbor hopping after that.

Likely Beaver Island, Elk Rapids, Suttons Bay, Traverse City, Leland for lunch, Frankfort, then back to New Buffalo.

We have both Charlevoix and Mac Island booked for late June. Looking forward to it, but:
1) I hope the border situation gets back to normal. Right now they still have Covid testing both ways. A nuisance.
2) price of diesel. We burn more than 300 gallons just to get to Mackinac bridge. A day and a half each way.
So we have 3 months to think about it. I know, first world problems...

Have you taken your boat to Mack Island previously?

I hate it...worst marina I have been to. Just the endless disturbance from the ferry boats...ick.

Much rather go to Mack City and ferry over for a day trip to the island. Or even a hotel for the night life there.

Been there a couple of times by boat. Last summer, we had bad weather blow in and I ended up breaking 5/8 dock lines in Mack Island harbor. Boat was pitching about 3 feet in the well for about 36 hours. Fun when I left, ran into some good size waves around Bois Blank Island.

Actually this will be our fourteenth trip by our own boat to Mackinac Island in the past 28 years. The Island does present its challenges. I've had lines break due to ferries and you just have to get up some mornings and leave your boat bounce in the slip while you enjoy the Island. Our favorite times on the Island are the evenings after all the "fudgies" have left.
The toughest part for us is that the harbormaster always puts us on the inside "T" so I bow in to break the ferry wake. That puts our cockpit in a difficult place to board the boat. Because they are fixed docks some years are okay to board halfway back, other years you need a ladder. So yes, it's sometimes a challenge but the Island is so worth it. We know pretty much every inch of it and regularly walk the circumference.
One change thanks to TC410, I will stern in next time for easier boarding. Hopefully the ferry wake won't beat us up too badly.
