We're going through the purchase process on a 2008 Sundancer 330 with about 180 hours, and I'm looking for advice on surveys. What to look out for, questions to ask, etc.

I'm also wondering what type of engine survey I should get, given the low hours.

Thanks!

If you can get it on a lift and check running gear for damage.
in water, vibration and performance issues.
look for weeping rudder shafts , and prop shafts.
look for staining around ports, discoloration of carpets means water is getting in.
check forward bilge areas.
i look for a boat that has been well cared for, and will pay more.

Compression test the engine.

I'd want a receipt of when the exhaust manifolds spacers and elbows were changed.
I'd still want all that replaced with new OEM to start fresh because, anybody can write a receipt and perform a rattle can rebuild of these parts.
Years not hours determine the replacement of parts.

I'm assuming your having a engine survey done by a qualified mech. and a separate survey for the boats hull and systems.
Don't let a regular boat surveyor tell you anything about the engines.

Thanks Mark. The engines only have 180 hours on them, so I don't believe they've replaced the manifolds & elbows. I'm waiting on the maintenance records now, and I'll ask the mechanic to check those out (yes, we're having a separate mechanical survey).
