I used him to survey a few boats about 15 years ago. One he found evidence of sinking which of course killed the deal after which the broker called me very apologetic and sending a potential buyer who now had this information to me for a copy of the survey. I spoke with the potential party and shared the survey which deferred some of my cost. He knew his stuff but he was not always “politically correct” IMHO but that was a long time ago.

That was an issue for me as well because it could raise issues with the bank.
More importantly, the fact that he didn't have specific QSM11 knowledge was the deal breaker for me. I need someone who is familiar with the exhaust manifold leaks, EGTs and the fuel burn in order to feel comfortable. As soon as he said we will reference the suggested prop size and pitch from the 2003 specs and make sure that is what the boat has....I was out. Done too much research on everyone correcting their props and fuel burn to trust someone who wants the original prop specs on the boat.
He does have a wealth of knowledge and sounds like a great guy and if he would do the hull only maybe that would have been different. Too many things to look at on these engines other than an oil analysis and shooting them with a heat gun. Wasn't familiar with the after cooler/ heat exchanger service intervals either, said every 1000hrs and you are good to go.
Just patiently checking the ten day forecast about every hour hoping the week of March 14th works for the surveys.
