Anyone ever raise the swim platform. On my 390 there is quite a big step from the cockpit down to the platform. Then the step back to the dock is a doozie. I am 6' tall and this is quite a stretch for me. My old lady is kinda short and I have kids. I could really see someone falling between here and the dock. I have searched the web and seen pics of these in both locations. I'm assuming it came from the factory like this. There is probably 6" from the bottom of the transom door to the platform. Would like to close that to about 1/2". I don't believe there is anything on the inside of the transom that would prevent this.

Tell me what you think. I'll put up a pic in the morning. I am at work right now.

It is possible as long as you have the access in the ER for the higher through bolts , my other question is do you use it for swimming ? I normally like platforms close to the water

Yes we do swim. I may have to replace the ladder with a longer one. Not sure yet. The platforms around our lake are used as thoroughfares to get from one boat to another. Also off and on the boat at the dock a lot. Swimming from the swim platform is the least of my concerns. Its when the boat is near solid ground is what I'm worried about. (When I say solid ground I mean dock)

Our boat is gonna be on the trailer next month. It would be a good time to do this. Waiting to hear back from my mechanic. Unfortunately I don't get to spend any quality time with my boat while its out of the water. Having to pay someone to do things I know I can do really sucks.

The big problem with the platform is the distance from the cockpit floor down to the platform. I can't imagine why sea ray left the platform so low knowing how high the cockpit floor is.

I am trying to figure out how far exactly to raise it though. I'm thinking 1 inch below transom door.

When I installed my new swimplatforms.com I raised it as much as it was possible. The platform was indeed designed to reduce the quite high step to the cockpit. Much more comfortable now.
There’s plenty of room inside if you need to fit the bolts higher.

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to go forward with this. I would love to have the new one from swimplatforms.com but just cant swing it right now. I'll just raise the factory one for now. Maybe in 2 years when I pull it back out for maintenance.

Pietro, I would really like to know what that one you have cost. You can pm me if you like.. If you don't want to disclose I understand.

No problem! First let me say, on more time, that it's great product. It can really transform your boat!

Cost in 2009 was 3,195 US$ plus 125 for the export crate. This included two swimming ladders. Since the platform was exported to Italy I paid no taxes in the USA. Considering the dollar to euro exchange rate it was kind of a bargain! (if we can call a bargain someting boat-relate)!

You may want to ask Swimplatfors.com for an updated quote.

Thanks Pietro, That is a lot less than I expected. If only I could pay them in Euros . I would really love to have one. I have seen their products on friends boats and your right. They are great. I regret to say that I have reached my boat upgrade budget for this year. (I drew the line at $8000.) Hopefully I can get the old one relocated for a smaller stack of hundreds.

One more question Pietro, How far below the transom door is your platform mounted?

Don't know exactly... gimme some time and next time I go to the boat I'll take the exact measure and a pic too!

When I replaced my platform from swimplatform.com, It was raised to just about 2 inch under the door. On my web site, past project page, pictures 4, 5, & 6 show the difference between the old and the new.

Thanks gentleman, I appreciate it. I was thinking one inch below transom door. After thinking though. I do want to get one of those shiny new ones from swimplatforms and at one inch it may be too high for aftermarket one.

As promised. From the pic you can see how much I raised the platform:
