Table Rock Lake

The wake thing goes both ways. I love when I am pulling skiers into and out of the cove near our place, only to have someone idle in and drop anchor in the mouth of the cove. Then they get pissed at me because I'm throwing a wake - even though I always maintain more than 100' of seperation. Interestingly, when water patrol comes around and they see someone anchored in that position, they always tell them to move.:smt038
You are absolutely 100% in the right by staying 100 feet away. I have no problem with that as it is legal. As for the morons in the mouth of the cove anchored, they deserve to be jostled around. If you are following the laws and are polite about your wake one has no reason to be upset but there really has been a problem with novice boaters lately.

Speaking of the jumping rock, I saw something there last week that was simply amazing - luckily no one got hurt so I can laugh about it. This woman in a State Park rental boat motors in through a bunch of boats (big wake of course), and drops off 5 or 6 kids. Then she decided to take pictures of said kids jumping off the rock. Problem was she forgot that she had put the boat in reverse when she motored in to stop her boat. So here she is sitting in the bow taking pictures while her boat idles out in reverse through about 20 boats. People were scrambling to get their boats out of the way, yelling at her to stop.:smt013 It was unbelieveable

I understand the novice boater thing, as you can tell from above. What happened to simple common sense??

We were down all last week, and I was struck by the lack of boat traffic. We stayed south of the dam, so I don't know what your side looked like. Ours was empty, not that I'm complaining. The only place I consistently saw boats in any numbers was at the jumping rock. It was like people were putting their kids on the boat, taking them to the jumping rock (south of the dam on the western side of the lake), and then going back in.

We wer down last Wednesday and Thursday....and the boat traffic was lighter. I know there were several school districts around here that started last week...so that could have had an impact. We were down mid week about 3 weeks ago, and it was very busy. It seems like when school starts, even the weekends have less boat traffic.

Tim...have you gotten all of your issues resolved?

Jeff,
MM has gone above and beyond getting our issues resolved. Our punch list has been whittled down to a handful of items. There are still some design issues that MM can't do anything about, like configuring the swim platform so that the tow ropes constantly get caught on the grab handles. It just never occured to me when we were looking at the 270 that this would be an issue.

At this point we have to decide to either add a sport tower or trade for a boat that is better suited for water sports. I figure the tower will be about $5,000, whereas I could break-even trading our boat and only be about $2,000 out-of-pocket for taxes and documenting fees. Unfortunately, nothing in Sea Ray's current line fits the bill, so if we decide to go another direction it will be a Chaparrel. I don't know.

The bottom line (no pun intended) is the folks at MM (you know who you are) did an awesome job, after being put in a very bad position.:smt038

Did not know about it. What the scoop? We might be camping at cricket this weekend, but the wife said she wont go unless some of our friends go with us. She things it would be boring, which I will agree. We were planning a trip to galveston next weekend, but I guess we will have to see what the weather does. It is not looking good right now.

Anyone planning on going on the Getaway to Eureka Springs in September?

Tim....I had forgotten about this trip. I think there were about 6-8 boats that went last year. A couple on our dock, who have a 390DA, went last year, and said they had a good time.

Heya folks!!! I just wanted to share a little bit more information about the Eureka trip for those interested!

Mark your calendars for September 19th – 21st.
We’ll depart from Kimberling City late Friday morning, stop in Shell Knob for lunch, arrive at Holiday Island late afternoon and have a delightful dinner at Gaskins Cabin.
Saturday is up for grabs with no planned activities. Everyone can relax on their boats, take in a game of golf or explore Eureka Springs.
If our group wants to get together on Saturday, we’ll cruise up to the dam, go into town later in the afternoon and have a docktail party early Saturday evening.
Sunday morning we’ll have breakfast and return home mid morning.

This trip works for both cruisers and sport boats. Holiday Island offers motel rooms and condos for nightly rentals.
We take a van to shuttle people back and forth from their boats to town, etc…

I have the pleasure of attending and helping out with this event this year and im stoked!!! The environment is very very relaxed and Eureka is always neat this time of year. If you guys have any questions at all you can pm me here, email me at jonathan.lancaster@marinemax.com or give me a call at 417-725-0220. This trip really is a blast so call everyone you know and lets make the most of it!!!!!

:smt038I would love to go, hummm but there is that gas thing. We have been talking about boating to Eureka for a while but have never gotten around to it. This might be a good time, hey especially if MM picks up the gas tab. Ok, that is just dreaming.
I wonder if the leaves will be changing by then, I would like to go when the leaves are changing.

Is any one else here going?

Is MM picking up the gas tab? If so I will go.

I bet if you look Zane in the eye and make a mean face you could persuade him, or anyone for that matter!!!

The cost is $50 per person and includes Friday lunch, Friday dinner and Sunday breakfast. Other than that though you are on your own . Just think of it as a mini summer vacation where you have the awesome pleasure of hangin out with me!!!! DO IT KURT =P

Can't wait to see you all on the lake!!!

Tell Zane I will buy his team a pitcher of beer on softball night if he authorizes MM to pay for the gas.

Jonathon....are there slips to rent? If so, what is the marina?

There certainly are! The name of the Marina is Holiday Island Marina, i need to check for certain but i believe our events cordinator will be taking care of slip reservations based on our rsvp's. I will know for certain when i speak to her this afternoon and will update then...

Everyone have a good weekend? The weather was awesome....the water felt great. We went down to Big Cedar for dinner on Saturday night. Tim I kept an eye for your pewter hull...but didn't see you out....but it was dinner time. Hope everyone had a great time...and didn't get too sunburned.

I went over to State Park to look at a lift for sale and got seriously depressed after I saw how nice State Park is. I bought a 10k boat-floater and rented the stall immediately. It is too bad summer is over or I would be there every weekend (even I went back to school). I also cleaned the hull of my boat and found 2 large spider stress cracks, and a void. This added to my growing list of warrenty issues of starboard clet cracks at the studs, stress cracks in my gauge lenses, my nav light won't stay screwed down, and slow oil leak somewhere which just makes me furious. She is going in soon for work so I am finished for the year.

Jeff - we were waiting for a slip to open up at about 5:30 and docked by 5:45. We are in the development about half way between State Park and Big Cedar, same side of the lake. Sorry we missed you.

Kurt - You're right, State Park is great. If we had bought a condo somewhere else, that is where we were going to slip our boat. Having dry storage in our development is a bit more convenient. Sorry you have to cut your season so short. September and October are my favorite months on the lake.

The weather was unbelieveable. I kept an eye out for all of you, obviously without success. We didn't make it past the dam though. We did run south to the MO/Ark border and coved out a bit on Sunday. Headed down to Cricket Creek and the run from the cove down was insane. Seemed like everyone in Arkansas with something that floats and had a motor had it on the lake. We were pounding through 3 - 4 foot rollers the whole way.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Kurt...so you are renting a slip at State Park? State Park is very nice...they have that walking trail that goes past the Branson Belle...and I believe all the way to the dam. What dock are you on? My wife has a cousin with a houseboat on H dock. We have considered moving to State Park...but we have better shower facilities at our place. If we ever get a boat with a "real" shower...we may try to move to State Park.
What are you going back to school for?

Tim....it was probably about 6:15 when we were going by your area. I agree...the next 2 months are awesome boating weather. Last year..we were in shorts and t-shirts the 1st weekend in November. When the water is too cold to get in, I love to go down by the dam, turn off the engines, listen to music and just float. I saw some Gilligan looking think a couple of weeks ago ( I wish I would have had my camera)...it looked like some sort of old camper sitting on pontoons.

We will be on "K" Dock. Does State Park not have any showers? I usually just use my transom shower as does my wife so it is not that big of deal. I am taking a few biology classes this fall and next spring to be more competitive getting into Nurse Anesthesia school. I thought I might give it one more try before I get too old.

We are looking foreward to being on the Branson side of the lake. It just has more to offer including traffic which is it's only downfall.

I don't know where you saw it, but I know the breed. There are a couple homemade "house" boats docked in Cricket Creek Marina. I'll have to dig out a few old pictures we have of them.
