I have a 2002 380 Sundancer with twin 8.1 Horizons fuel injected with v-drives. The port tachometer when under power will not exceed 2200 RPM's. There is no manufacturer name on it other than the Sea Ray emblem on the face. Maximum RPM is 6000 and the hour meter is built into the face of the gauge. Someone advised me that it is manufactured by FARIA and I can ship it to them for repair which is cheaper than buying new. Any suggestions might help. Thanks

Is there a selector switch on the back of the tach for 4, 6 or 8 cylinders? If so, try wiping it back and forth a few times between all of the settings to see if that makes a difference.

A quick google and i found this. Looks like 125 smackers for repair plus S&H

My systems are a tad older but this is what I would try. I had a similar issue with my tachs; just were not reading correctly. Call the manufacturer and they advised to remove the tach; locate the adjustable knob (screw driver slot ) on the rear of the gauge; mark the position; then gently turn the adjustment knob right and left to their respective stops ( do this several times ); line adjustment knob back to the original marked position. The technical guy said that takes care of 90% of the analog instrument issues they see. Of course if the case is compromised or there is a major electrical issue then it's time for a total tear down. It was my goal to maintain the SeaRay emblem on my tacks and syncro gauges. I just could not locate a suppler or re-builder anywhere. Anyway; this little procedure worked for my purposes

So ive had a problem with my tach in my 88 sorrento. Upon start up it would bounce around and act irradicaly, i turned the knob on the back of the tach back and forth andnset it back to 8cyl and it doesnt do it anymore. Havent run thenboat to see if it respknds normally but worth a shot!
