We're vacationing at our condo in AZ for about 5 weeks and, as we sometimes do, we took in a Seattle Mariners spring training game. They played the Texas Rangers and we beat them 9 to 5. It was a perfect day for a game with temps just above 70, no wind and light, thin clouds. The Surprise Stadium is only about 10 minutes from home so the day doesn't involve any long road trips.

We're headed to another game today at the Peoria Sports Complex to see the M's play the Colorado Rockies. Weather should be just a bit warmer with no winds and it's all blue skies. I'll post some pics later.

GO MARINERS!!

I’m in Florida for the week and heading to Port St. Lucie tonight to see the Mets. Almost time for them to head north.

It’s not a baseball game, but a friend just texted me and bought us tickets to go to the Marquette basketball game Friday. He graduated from Marquette.

Last time I was at a baseball game we took the boat…. Tiger Stadium. Got nose bleed seats because we weren’t sure we would make it…. But later you could move anywhere… the kids ran down but we stayed up it was such a great view with the city in the background
Pic is a panoramic which is very cool but cut up for here.

The last Tiger game I attended was at Tiger Stadium in mid-70's. Hit a few in Lakeland. Went to see the Pirates in Bradenton a number of times (neat little stadium).

My aunt took me to the old stadium all the time when I was a kid….. that was a cool park

The owner of the tool & die shop my dad worked at would let me use his box seat tickets a few times a year. Front row, 2nd level, first base line. Highlight was being given the tickets for the 1971 All Star game there. I was thrilled! I used to go to Olympia Stadium and watch the Wings in the late 60’s. Boy, I miss those days...

The Peoria Sports Complex is my old stomping grounds. We lived about 1/4 of a mile south of there.
It was all orange groves, we would ride our horses through them quite often.
It was out in the middle of nowhere back in the day, nowadays not so much. lol

Yesterday we took in another game, this time it was the M's vs the Colorado Rockies. Another perfect day for baseball with temps in the mid-70's, no wind and, as you can see just some light, fluffy clouds.

We had seats right behind the M's bench. The game was not all that exciting so we left after the 7'th inning with the score M's 12, Rockies 3.

One exciting thing, Ichiro was at the game, standing about 30' from where our seats were. We yelled out to him and he waved back.

Here's Mitch Haniger at the plate. He wacked a loooong ball over the right-center fence for a solo homer.

Here he is headed home after his solo home run.

All things considered it was a perfect day. Nice weather, the M's won, we ate some hot dogs and drank some of the most expensive beer I've ever seen.

Looks like you had a great time. Better seats than regular season I am sure. My .02 cents preseason / minor league base ball is the best. You can go to the game with family, get good seats and enjoy a game without going broke.

I like those kind of seats. When I was dating my wife we had season tickets to Yankee Stadium (the old one). They were great seats in Sections 2 and 4 in the upper deck. You could see every play unobstructed and had a great view of how the ball was travelling. It didn't matter if someone stood in front because of the slope and the fans were always awesome (except when the Rhode Island Red Sox fans came to town). That's when you could still get hot dogs, beers, and peanuts in your seat. I've sat in lots of places in Yankee Stadium, and those nosebleed seats were my favorite for watching the game.

The only better time I had was the 2001 World Series when we sat in the main level just behind the right field wall by the foul pole. It was right after 9/11, the Yankees were winning, and you could feel the stadium vibrating through your feet.

The old Yankee stadium had a soul. The new stadium feels dead. I'm not a Mets fan, but they sure did get Citi Field right - it has a great feel.

We've been to a number of spring training games, too. I'll take the super fan-friendly Blue Jays field in Dunedin over the Yankee's Steinbrenner field any day of the week and twice on Sunday. The Astro's former field in Winter Park was great, too.

When I was in college and then working an dating my wife, we would sit in the bleachers at old Busch stadium. $5 tickets that you could only buy the day of the game. $4 20oz beers and $1.50 for a hotdog. Last time I was at the current Busch stadium a couple years ago a 16oz beer was $13 and a hotdog was $7.50. But the nosebleed seats offer a great view of the game.

The Cardinal's double A team is in Springfield, MO, which is 30 minutes from our lake and where my kids went to college. The stadium is amazing. For less than $50 I can get seats behind home plate, buy 3 beers a piece for me and my wife and have dinner. And it's good baseball to watch. Very cool.

Times sure were different.
Yes they were. I grew up across the street from a St. Louis Blues hockey player. They had a very middle class home and he sold insurance in the off-season to make ends meet. My dad was an engineer at McDonnell Douglas and made way more money than the professional hockey player. Different times indeed.

When I was about 12-14 years old a friend and I mowed lawns all spring to save up some money. We took a Greyhound bus from our area about 90 miles to Detroit where we got dropped off in the downtown area.

We walked a couple of miles along Brush(?) Street to get to Tiger Stadium where we bought some cheap seats.

After the game (and after dark) we walked back to downtown where we got back on the bus to go home.

Those were the days.

Today, two young kids doing that would be found dead in an alley with no clue who did it. Sad.

I grew up in Cleveland in the days when they made the Major League movie. Some remembers…
The indians were horrible but we had some stars. My favorite was Rocky Colivito. I met him, was amazing. My father gave me a ball with the signature of all the team one year. How he got i don’t know. Lost it somewhere along the way.
Nobody was in the stadium, so we would buy the cheapest seats ($2) then move to behind home plate cause nobody was in the stadium and the ushers didn’t care.
10-12 years old, we would ride the bus downtown, no adults, can you imagine that today?
The bums downtown were just harmless homeless drunks that were no threat to us at all. They looked forward to us hanging with them and looked out for us.
Times sure were different.
Players had off season jobs. Not billionaires like today because they can hit/throw/catch a ball. I no longer watch any sports. I cant tolerate these prima donnas with salary that ruined the opportunity for kids to do what we used to.
Fark em. Every Jeter, otani, Trout, Brady, James, etc. EVERY one.
Ah old Cleveland Municipal Stadium!
One of the Yankees had the greatest line ever about that empty cavern:
"The best thing about Cleveland Stadium is if it ever caught fire, all the spectators would have their own personal exit"

Then there was the "Dime Beer Night Riot"!

@highslice We lived in St. Louis back in the 90's. I loved listening to Jack Buck and Mike Shannon on KMOX. You could always bank on Shannon being sloshed by the 7th inning.

A group of guys in our neighborhood always talked about getting a limo and taking in a Businessman's Lunch Special game. After the game, go to Mike Shannon's Steak & Seafood downtown, and finish the evening by taking in the Sauget Ballet. We talked about doing that for years. Never did it!

I have done a number of Businessman's specials followed by dinner at Shannon's. Usually with the wife, so no trips to Sauget. During college I would load up the bed of my pickup and roll down to Busch stadium for a weekend game and then a trip to the landing. Buck and Shannon was the sound track of my youth.

Unfortunately Shannon's closed 6 or 7 years ago.
