I'm just curious to know which stock boat by category in Sea Ray history has the best horsepower to weight ratio? Let's use the dry weight and horsepower reported by Sea Ray.

Let's start with twin engine cruisers:
I've got 750 HP in 15,400 pounds. That is a ratio of 0.04870
Anything out there better than that?

Probably going to be something like a 27 Pachanga... 730HP/5100lbs = 14.3%. Or, another way to say it is 1HP for every 7lbs.

Even if you adjusted for the newer, PHP-rating, it would still be about 12%.

Wasn't there a year or two when Sea Ray made a Ski Ray with a big block? Maybe that would be a possibility, too.

We used to have a 280 Sunsport. 600 hp/6400 lbs. (twin 350 mags/B1's)

Ironically, the boat wasn't quite as fast as you'd think, nor did it plane out at anything less than, say, 30 mph... It did look neat, and sounded nice echoing off the high banks of Lake Cumberland with the through hulls opened... for a little while until it gave you a headache!

The early 2000's - 340 - was offered with 370 hp motors and has a dry weight of 13,000 lbs.

My 270SD 425/5800= .07327
280DA w/T5.0 520/9700= .05360

3000 lb 190 Signature with 240 hp engine = 8%
Its supposed to do > 50 mph but I've only had it to 48.

My 310 has 750hp for a stated 12,000 pounds. My 260 was a bit better with the 502, but that was not stock.

Is there any worse than mine out there? 740 HP and 22,000 #'s.

Yes, the 39/40 Motor Yacht and the new 450DA with the twin gas 8.1s (750HP). The 39/40MY is 26,500#. The 450DA is 28,500#.

We should start a new thread on the worst. I bet the 450DA wins.

2006 185 Sport claimed to be 2400 lbs with 190hp.... 7.9%

the 2010 with the 4.3 MPI at 220hp would be around 8.5%. I want one.....

My 290 has 850 HP with a brochure weight of 10,500. Almost 8.1%

Wish I had more pictures the info in the profile is pretty much it. Runs like a charm will plane like most ski boats, top speed of about 55 at lake Powell, roughly 4000' elevation. Engines have about 130 hrs, boat close to 400. B'3 with 2.2 gear ratio. Boost on the superchargers is only about 3lbs, which is minimal according to the dealer. It is fast enough the way it is, would be concerned about adding additional boost/horsepower for fear of messing up the outdrives. Sure is nice to have all the power whenever you want/need it.

Very cool. No compromise with that boat -- its a go fast AND comfy cruiser. Which propsets are you running? 28p? I bet 3500 rpm puts you way in the 40's.

I just realized that you moved from a 29 to a 33. What is your average cruise speed on that boat and what is the top speed?

For comparision, at 4000 rpms, I am running around 25 knots with a light load and little wind. I am guessing that your boat withl I/O's would probably be running at 38 to 40 knots at that RPM.

Wow! My 290 only had 520 HP.

A HP to weight ratio is meaningless with the different variates of boats here....
