I was actually thinking about welding, a stainless bonding cable to the stainless clip that holds that in place on the inside of the assembly. I don’t think there’s enough that sticks out to put a hose clamp on. When the lube hose clips on, it basically goes flush to the assembly.

Of course you need to pull the o-rings off, but ->

Can't weld stainless to brass. You may be able to braze it.

I’ll have to do some more looking at that. that would actually be out in the water in the assembly and that’s tight to the rubber bellows for the driveshaft. I’d be worried about chafing from a clamp. Not sure how well something brazed would hold up in that environment either.

Ah, thought the hose barb was inside. In that case, you definitely need to use a clamp of sorts with a small stainless wire like what is used on the rams. Welding isn't really going to work. If you can't use a clamp I would leave it alone. But that's me.

Edit: Here's a thought, but you could use stainless safety wire to attach it. Thinking many wraps and spin tight.

Don't use any brass if saltwater will be present.
If you could make something up with Marelon fittings it would be ideal.

That was kind of what I was thinking and why I was worried about the galvanic reaction. I remember some reading somewhere that brass does not hold up well. If only I could find the same fitting, made out of bronze or nibral

But two of those little plastic pieces of OEM crap have broken in the last six months

Marelon is pretty tough stuff. They make through hull valves from Marelon.
You could also use 316 stainless fittings. Stay away from 18-8 types of stainless however.

They look so cute when you’re contemplating wrapping them in tannerite

This is the second one on replacing, and they both had no signs of water intrusion into the transom. So they’re both re-bedded in 4200 for a second time.

Well, despite my general apprehensions with screwing with anything aft of the engine here we are.

I replaced the bulkhead fitting for the gear lube bottle with an OEM component and I added an inch and a half to the hose to make sure it’s never under tension regardless of trim or steering position.

I went ahead and replace the universal bellow I had to remove to access it. Hopefully I got it right because I have never done one….

If I do decide to keep this boat, which is a topic of discussion (nostalgia and wedding vs needy headache (the boat:p)) hopefully this is the end of the run of costs that I have been on since January.

I decided now was as good as any to replace the faulty trim sensor, and I’m going to adjust it so it’s at the positive one or two even when the drive is fully in. I think I may have had it slightly out of range last time which caused the failure of the contacts.

Well, hopefully everything is right. I intend to rehang the drive tomorrow and adjust the sensor and limit switches. Hoping to get the bottom paint touched up during the week..

I have three new detailers who gave me an estimate. I have no idea why it is so hard to get somebody in Florida to do a proper cut, polish, and sealer application but it’s been FU**ING maddening! I’m seriously ready to offer my detailer from Jersey a rental car, a week hotel and flight if he’d just come down and spend a day and a half doing my boat!

I have two estimates to look at from the upholsterers and a decision to make about whether it hits yacht trader or not

I feel for ya. Maybe you can take some solace in that you only had to do one.

I just wish life would stop running me over a cheese grater in every other aspect. Not something to talk about here but there’s been a lot of REALLY bad things happening.

The boat really isn’t that big of a problem per se. The last few months of being a money suck isn’t great but not that big of a deal. The fact that it has consumed so much of my non work/ not raining time has been an insult and stress added to great injury. Lots of other things going on

Bravo III's are pretty heavy. That's pretty good distance you got on your toss, there :)
I’m built like a grizzly bear, I probably could throw that thing a few feet if I really wanted to

And sometimes I REALLY want to…

I guess we’ll see if I did the bellows properly tomorrow. Never done them before, so hopefully no leakage.

New detailer did a great job! The boat hasn’t looked this good since the guy I used for years in jersey did it last. It looks like the gel is a little thin in some places so hopefully I can keep it sealed so it doesn’t need another heavy cut.

Looks Good!
Question; Have you noticed any difference with the drive shower?
I’ve only ever run the boat a few times when I first bought it without the shower.

I figured a heavy boat cruising 3900-4k with 2.2:1 gears it can’t hurt, particularly since we run long ranges on plane with the upper exposed.

Anecdotally, the gear oil never looks really terrible at 100 hours when I change it

Bilge nice and dry. I suppose I will know by the end of the week if my bellows are leaking at all.

Now, let’s see if this thing can be on its’ best behavior, and redeem itself over the next several weeks. Either way I think I’m doing new cockpit upholstery. It’s gonna be a selling point or a keeping point.
