The winter storage boaters

More of us than them so tough on us. The hard part for them is they have to build building to hold our boats that are empty more months than they are used. In our area the boat service companies struggle to find anyone willing to work, so the winterizations are done by complete novices often.

My storage place has something going on year round. Summer storage, summer store & splash service, cleaning, pressure washing, waxing, fueling. Their emphasis is on boats but it's not unusual to see collectible cars, motorcycles, other things stored there.

Most marine places cannot find the temp help they need to do that stuff. They cannot even keep up with customer repairs.

My place still has boats that never made it in the water this year due to backlog and being short mechanics

Same for some around our area compounded by the high water levels and owners that did not find a slip not under water and left it in storage.

I pay $1850 flat rate outside all inclusive; haulout, winterize all systems, power wash, shrink wrap, gas stabilizer, blocks and stands, and spring launch. Portage In. I do pay a nominal fee in spring to have them prepare boat for launch and ensure engines and all systems are running check all fluids etc. They also provide power and water in the spring for boat preparation. 320 Sundancer

Have you been happy at Millers? I store with Doyne's and paid slightly more than that for my 33' Four Winns, but indoor cold storage. Not a fan of shrink-wrap when for a few bucks more, I can be inside. Headed back to Doyne's this year with my 37' - $2291 plus antifreeze/labor and $139 to drop back in the water. Miller's would be $2399 but then she's outside and shrinked.

I've been ok at Millers. When I looked at the pricing for Doynes because it's menu based it seemed like it would be a lot more but based on what you're paying probably not. Where are you at in the summer?

Any leads on indoor storage in the Montreal area?

Michigan City - spent 5 years with my 33' at Marina Shores in Portage but decided to try something different with the 37'. So far we like it. Did our first year at Hammond....really missed being right on the lake while we were at Marina Shores. And all pollution from the steel mills was just too much.

Don't miss being part of this type of discussion. We used to winterize, shrink wrap, and our 370DA sat on her trailer for the winter.

Now....slip payment and keep boating.
