I have a 26' 1984 sea ray sundancer that i just bought.

one side runs hotter than the other.

the previous owner told me that the "dog bone" was sticking.

he gave me a new "dog bone" with the boat. it is a rod about 4 inches long with a ball and a spring on each end.

Where does it go ? im guessing in the thermostat, but where is that ?

I think we need a bit more information. What engine do you have - does it have raw water cooling or does it have a closed cooling system with a heat exchanger? What part gets hot? If it's the exhaust manifold or riser it may partially clogged and may need to be replaced. Any pictures or additional information will help the board help you.

Pull the hoses off the T fitting on top of the thermostat housing. The old one will be easily seen.

thanks fc3, i found it. how tight should i make it? i have it tightened so there is just enough tesion to hold the balls on the t-valve.
