Thinking of getting a Kenyon Electric grill ...

Thanks, I need to finish the generator referb first.

So the weather here on Long Island has gotten to the point I can't really finish my generator at the moment, so it's time to start this project.

I am considering using acrylic as the material for the cabinet carcass, I would take almost no time to complete. I am just unsure how the glued joints will hold up over time. Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing?

I see a lot of claims on how well the right glue will hold up. So I ordered some small pieces of acrylic and some different types of glue to see how they hold up to being routed and sanded and re-polished. If not, I will stay with my original plywood and fiberglass route.

So what do you think? I ended up going with a grey/white Formica with teak trim. The teak still needs to be sanded and coated with gloss Sikkens. But over all I think it came out alright, exactly what I was trying to accomplish.

It looks great. how well do you think the Formica will hold up outdoors. I worked with it a lot back in the day and it wasn't what I would select in a wet environment.
The cabinet does look sharp though

Thanks, I would have to agree with you if it were contact cement, but I used the West System epoxy instead. Hopefully that will make the difference. But if I have to do this over again, I am going to use pigmented Plexiglas. That was just too costly this go around, it would have added an additional $1200 to the already $2400 DIY price tag, and I am not sure if I got the measurements right for when I have 5 or 6 people on the boat. It may be a little to tight with the outside corner of the sink and the wrap around seat end. I only allowed 20"s to walk past. So after I use this for a season, I might be remaking this anyway ...

So I have to say after the summer we had this year on Long Island, this was one of the best improvement I have done to this boat! This bar/grill combo was just the best.

I thought I would have reservations on the grill, being an avid gas grill guy. But I have to say that this was really awesome and performed as great as it looks. I still think gas is better, but when you weigh out the options for grilling at the dock, this thing just rocks.

I wish it were a little easier to clean, you can't do a burn off with the electric like you can with a gas grill. But I never got one complaint on the cooking of the grill. I can only say good things about the Kenyon, so it was well worth the price!

Couldn't agree with you more. For cleaning, I put the grate and lid in the dishwasher on potscrubber cycle. It works pretty well.

So here are a few shots of the grill\bar installed. These are after this seasons fun and now under shrink wrap.

Does anyone use one under a Bimini or do they put out too much heat above and would damage it?

Guys we saw someone using a similar grill under a Bimini on a boat tied up in packed marina ( holiday weekend).

They came awfully close to setting their Bimini top and possibly worse when they had a big flare up. The bright lights that they were sprayed their freshwater hose on the flare up and made it even worse before taking out the fire extinguisher....problem solved. (Can't fix stupid). I would be very careful using any grill under a Bimini or overhang. Just saying...

Skybolt your grill/ wet bar looks awesome! You could sell them... It's that good. (Love the TV and radio remote)

Sorry for posting back so late, but mine is under the bimini. Works great!

Couldn't agree with you more. But the grill it self is supposed to be used with water under the grill in there grease catch pan. That keeps the heat and no flame ups from happening. When used right it's virtually smokeless. I say virtually, as compared to a gas BBQ.

Thank you very much, my wife and I absolutely love this setup and could not imagine the boat without it.

There are no flames at all... Maybe the idiots were using a gas grill.. But the electric grill is good under the Bimini... It's installed under my hard top

So I have been having issues with the grill top (grate) of my grill. The top is basically de-laminating, and the Teflon is flaking off. This happened last year so I contacted Kenyon and they sent me a new top free of charge. Then the new one did the same thing after a 6/8 uses. So I contacted them again. I was told that there was an issue with the bonding process and they have rectified it, so they sent me a second new top. So far so good. I just wanted to let anyone using one of these grills to know so you can get it replaced!

Glad they have good customer service. It seems to be missing from most companies these days.

Yeah, they are very good with taking care of there customers. I had pointed out an issue with their web site and they thanked me by sending me a grill tool set. Pretty nice of them. It's well worth the money they charge for the grill. We've been very happy with it.

I have also had great experienced with Kenyon. The heating element on my grill went out and they sent me a replacement part quickly. I met the president of the company a few years ago at the Sea Ray party at the FLIBS. Very nice guy and they care about their customers. I wish all of the parts of my boat came from similar manufacturers.

Same here... Called them and told them the year and make of the boat... They already knew there was a problem with heating elements that year and they sent me a new one at no charge... Didn't even ask me for proof, not that I was lying, but it was nice not to be questioned..

Great company, great product... Use it all the tome
