Boatless
Hi there. I’m a hopeful first time boat buyer and frequent jet ski rider. The only boat I’ve driven before is a rowboat. I’m not quite sure what I’m doing, hence the reason for my post. I’ve zeroed in on The SLX 250, since it has a bathroom.

Last Sunday I did take a look at the SPX 190,
And was impressed, but the lack of bathroom is a problem.

so after doing some research, it seems like the SLX250 probably best fits my needs. I’m a little concerned that it might be too much boat for a first timer. Are there models in between the SPX 190 and the SLX250 I should consider?

Just to give you a little background, I live in NYC, and would use the boat on weekends, traveling to a slip on the manasquan River in NJ. (Most family in NJ)

it will be used to entertain family and friends.
Hence the need for the bathroom. Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to provide.

That would be a good choice based on your needs. There are plenty of Sundecks out there used with bathrooms if you want to go that route.
21 foot versus 25’ isn’t much difference in handling and driving for a newbie since both are narrow beams and single engine. Tow capacity will be very different between them though.

Thank you Paul. Appreciate your feedback.

That sure is a nice looking boat. Like Paul mentioned, the length is manageable for beginner, but watch the weight with the tow vehicle. My first boat was my Sundeck at 23.5 ft long. I didn’t have any additional towing issues compared to a 19’ boat.

The 6.2/Bravo III is a nice drive package, but you will need to keep an eye out for corrosion and maintain your mercathode system if you leave it slipped.

There are a few options that I have found to be extra useful. My daughter and her friends really like the optional bow filler cushions. I like the bow and transom sprayer for cleaning off the anchor and people coming off the beach.

good luck with the purchase!

It sounds like you're looking at new boats?

The SLX250 is an awesome boat, for sure. Whether it's too big for a first time buyer - that all depends on the buyer. Will you be trailering? Will towing weight be an issue?

The 250SLX is, by no means, an inexpensive bowrider - but it's a heck of a boat, for sure. I'm quite familiar with it - and the other boats that SR makes - the SLX line is where Sea Ray pulls out all the stops. There is another option for you with a boat that has a head, though. The SPX230 - that's the least expensive boat that Sea Ray currently makes with a head.

Our friends have a 250SLX beautiful boat and I agree it’s great to have an onboard head although it’s probably best suited for children or small adults it’s very tight getting in or out it’s not designed as a day head more of an emergency head in my opinion. Still a great boat.

thanks for recommending the SPX230, because it’s probably closer to what I’m looking for. Right now, the intention is to leave the boat in the slip, and then store it, during wintertime.
