Hi guys,
I am in desperate need of a replacement Thunderbolt IV breaker less electronic timing ignition. Mercruiser v8 7.4 454, 1986 engines.
I had a tune up and my mechanic is having a hard time sourcing the part.

Boat runs great except getting on a plane the port engine starts to miss. Summer is soon going to be over before I get it sorted!

New or used!

Of course you know TIV is no longer made. Hard to find and expensive if you can. Remove distributor and install a DUI (Davis Unified Ignition) complete distributor and move on.
 
That sounds like a coil or voltage supply to the coil, to me, but the modules are every where on a google search (used). Given the age of the dist. electronics why not upgrade to a PerTronix kit.

I strongly recommend a DUI distributor, trash all the Thunderbolt stuff.
 
Ok I have an update to the problem. They found fuel filters near the tanks, replaced them, also cleaned the carb and replaced the filter there! Bingo runs like a charm….. blast along at 4,000 rpm!

Kind of odd, mechanic first diagnoses it as an ignition problem but ends up actually being a fuel issue.......
 
I know, not impressed I hope my bill reflects the confusion.
