"ST" designated trailer tires only rated to 65mph.

http://www.goodyear.com/rv/pdf/marathon_gen_info_032806.pdf

"Industry standards dictate that tires with the ST designation are speed restricted to 65 MPH under normal
inflation and load conditions unless a different speed restriction is indicated on the sidewall of the tire."

BUT...

"Based on industry standards, if tires with the ST designation are used at speeds between 66 and 75 mph, it is
necessary to increase the cold inflation pressures by 10 psi above the recommended pressure for the load.

o
Do not exceed the maximum pressure for the wheel.
o

If the maximum pressure for the wheel prohibits the increase of air pressure, then the
maximum speed must be restricted to 65 mph.
o

The cold inflation pressure must not exceed 10 psi beyond the inflation specified for the
maximum load of the tire."

Did anyone know this?

Perhaps this explains some tire failures people have had...

i was surprised to read that that maximum towing speed in NE is 65mph.

Interesting find. But if the tire says "Max pressure 50PSI" are they suggesting you run them at 60PSI for speeds in excess of 65? Seems a bit contradictory...

If you take the time to read traffic laws most states have a reduced speed limit for vehicles towing anything behind them.

Anywhere from 5-10 miles lower than the posted limit. Many states still post two speed limits on their signs but a lot do not. Georgia is one of the states that does not but the towing limit is less than the posted limit.

That has been a standard for years on the trailer tires. Washington only allows 60 mph if you are towing anything. It's basically the truck speed limit here. It's not posted and you are expected to know it and you get looks when you are going 60 in a 70 mph zone. Besides, my diesel miles per gallon is a whole lot better at 60.

Oregon the same... posted always slower for trailers. On a side note, who tows faster than 65 anyway?

I did....several years ago on my way to the gulf. Cruising along about 80mph thinking how well the trailer was pulling. About 2 seconds after that thought I started thinking about how I was going to get it stopped in a hurry should I need to. Never went over 65mph again.

Best said right there! Ever seen a boat trailer accident? Ever seen it due to tire failure at speeds above 65 mph? Unfortunately I have....:smt009. And I will stop there. Please for ur families safety and that of other drivers..... 65 is fast enough
