Trailer Toolbox. Good Idea or Theft Target???

Mike, I had something similar on my old trailer and never had any problems. They lock good so there's no more risk of theft from there than there is your truck. I would keep muffs, hitch receiver, tie down straps, etc. in there and it is very nice to get it out of the truck.

I've had a few variations (different size and types of boxes) of that over the years on various trailers. I've never had one broken into. I attached the boxes from the inside... I tapped threads into the trailer frame and bolted the box to the trailer from the inside of the box.

Mine is set up just like Dennis's. LOCKED! You still run the risk of the trailer being gone

I, thankfully, have never had my trailer messed with either. (Knock on wood.) I have heard of spare tires, LED lights, and even the tires on the ground being taken. We had a thread here where someone was going to cruise for a week or so off the Florida Atlantic coast and he was warned of theft problems in a longer term situation. Many times we leave the trailer in a fairly unsecure area (Grand Haven, MI) and take the truck to the marina with us. I have as good of trailer locks as I can find and have thought about buying one of those boots you see on the parking and tow reality shows. Just didn't wat to make it any more enticing than it is but would LOVE the storage.
