I'm currently upgrading my elelectronics. The new Garmin 7212 will have a GSD 24 Sonar Module. The boat is a 2004 Sundancer with the original thru hull transducer. My question is can the original transducer with depth and temp be used with the new Garmin. The recommended transducer for the GSD is a Airmar B117. If the original transducer will be able to be used with the adapter I'd be saving time and money.

Thanks!

A simple answer is to review manual for your new Garmin rig and look for compatible transducers. If the one you have is not on the list, then most likely it's no good. In addition, I would place a call to Garmin tech support as well as Airmar, just to verify the info from different sources.

If the old transducer was connected to a Raymarine sounder before - it is better not to use it. Raymarine uses different impedance to Garmin/Furuno/Navico (Simrad/Lowrance) on their standard transducers - so better to consider an upgrade. (That is why you wont find any pigtail cables from Ray -> others) - but from Garmin-> Furuno & Furuno -> Simrad & Simrad -> Garmin works fine

Apart from that lifetime of a transducer is NOT eternal.. :)
