Hi there. Going to be installing a Humminbird transom mount transducer on the transom of my 89 340 Dancer 12Ft.beam. I have shaft drives and was wondering if anyone out there has any ideas as to the best spot to mount it. Im thinking in the center just above the rear drain plug. I thought this might be the area of less turbulence. I installed the graph/GPS a couple of years ago but never did the transducer at that time as I have the original factory through the hull that I still use for depth. I would like to have a back up depth reading so if the original /factory one dies (31 years old) I wont be left without anything. I usually only need the depth when in shallow and not at high speed and this will also give me temp. So I need some help with proper placement. Any help would be appreciated. Steve.

Honestly Steve I don’t think a transom mount is going to work very well. You need ‘clean’ water and on these big boats not much is clean behind the props. If you are going to try it I would go to one of the outside edges but you really need a thru hull model.

Well I appreciate your honesty and I do agree with you. I installed the graph /GPS for navigating more than anything but I do have the factory Lowrance 3200 in hull Transducer now which is working fine. A transducer did come with the Graph but the boat was in the water at the time I purchased it. Now its on land and I thought now is the time to do it before launch. I might try to put it off to the starboard side and see how it goes. If it works it works if nothing else I will have temp also when anchored. Thanks I will let you know how it went. -12c here today we live in Owen Sound 3 hours north of Toronto on Georgian Bay. so it might be a while. Sure do love the wide body we moved up from a 270 Sundancer single. Its our cottage on the water. Hope for a early Spring.

I think for your plan it should work fine. As said above at speed you will not get good readings but at idle and just floating should be ok.

Just for your info I saw that there is a fellow here on the boards that is parting out a boat like your 34 just in case you need something model specific.
