Does the tranny oil have to be warmed up or can it be changed cold?
Mercruiser 454 engines using Dextron 111 oil.
Any recommendations??
Thanks

I haven't drained mine yet, but My Merc Trans II on my 454 has a drain plug that, according to the diagram anyway, you seem to be able to actually get to. Low on the port side of the tranny, a bolt or screw. I had a guy do mine last year and he sucked it out, because he thought it would be too big a mess in the bilge using the drain bolt, but it still seems like it would be better to do it that way. Next time maybe. I don't know what your setup is, but maybe if you could drain it, it would get more out..
I think do it warm too, get all the sludge into suspension, like Carterchapman said.

Managed to do the tranny oil change yesterday. First time and a big surprise as to capacity.
Checked the Mercruiser 454 specs and according to what I read, there was approximately 2.5 litres per engine. Did I read it wrong?
Surprisingly pumped out 4 litres per engine which is almost a gallon.
Anyone have any idea as to the correct capacity?
Dipstick measurement on the second notch. Is this enough oil?
Thanks

You have a 454 engine, but what transmission do you have? Then you can find out the info you need..
