Transom Sound Bar

I’m thinking about adding a white WetSounds Stealth 6 or 10 powered sound bar to my transom and connecting it to my head unit with a RCA to AUX adapter. Has anyone ever done something like this?

It should be easy to install and I won’t have cut speaker holes in my transom. I can route the wires down the engine blower vents so zero new holes. I’m thinking I’ll be able to used the controls on the speaker bar to adjust volume, turn it on/off, or even use it completely independent of the cockpit stereo by connecting the sound bar to a different Bluetooth source.

I haven’t quite figured out how I’ll mount the sound bar though. I’m planning on using the existing rails. I could make a mounting bracket out of starboard and attach the sound bar to it then to the rails. Or attach the sound bar directly to the rails but it seems all the direct mounts are made for horizontal rails, not vertical like what I have. Any ideas?

Thanks. Boat is a 98 250DA

The starboard idea is quick and easy, but I suppose you could do any number of ways depending on what type of brackets you want to get.

But... something to think about, if you haven't already... on your boat, the transom seatback protrudes over the swim platform, which isn't very wide. Walking from the ladder to the door can sometimes be a bit sketchy as your right thigh can bump into the seatback and cause you to fall into the water... possibly right onto the drive and props. This is even more sketchy when the canvas is up since you can't counterbalance over the seatback. How much further out will the speakers extend? You might want to temporarily put it in place and feel it out. Otherwise, you could be making a dangerous situation.

Good point about the swim platform being so small, I didn’t even think about that. Another good excuse to get an extended aftermarket one...

TXpilot 83, we had a 250 DA and added a swimplatform from swimplatforms.com. It was an easy installation and transformed the boat. I recommend it.

As if one needs "another" excuse! :) Seriously, though, something as simple as an extended swim platform really does A LOT of usability to the boat. You can easily have a few people on the platform at a time.

I added a transom seat on my 260DA (extended platform): http://clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/adding-a-transom-seat.63453/ Looks like I'll have to find the pictures again and repost.

FYI, "swim platforms dot com"... that's owned by a couple guys that used to work at Sea Ray... making platforms! Good company and good product.

Thanks for all info. I’ve been wanting to get one of their “top mount” platforms for awhile now. I’ve only heard good things about them.

Check your head units audio ins and outs. To stream to the stealth's BT and have the head unit play that same music, your head needs a rear AUX-In. If you want the Sound bar to play whats going through the head unit, you need an AUX-Out or open pre-amp RCA to go to the stealth Aux-in

I just ordered one of these yesterday to replace my old head unit:

Think it’ll work with the WetSounds Stealth?

The boat already has an amp so I might have to buy a RCA splitter to connect the AUX out to the sounds bar.

Thanks

The RA70 has zone-1, zone-2 and woofer outputs. So if the existing amp/system does not require both full-range zone outputs in order to run, then I would use one of those and avoid splitting.
