I have a 1986 19' Sorrento. The last few times out I have noticed that the I/O trim gauge bounces...not all the time...it seems to be only in certain positions. I have read some of the posts about troubleshooting the sender but I think my issue is more related to not being grounded properly or poor connection at the gauge. I also have noticed that when the engine is cold I can kill it by adjusting the engine trim. I think that both problems started at the same time. I did a quick check of the battery and starter motor wires and all looks well. Any thoughts appreciated.

Grounding and electrical connections (at the gauge, as well) are always a good place to start.

Keep in mind as you read other posts, that most people on this board have Mercruisers. Personally I don't much about OMC drives and I don't know how well the info you may find transfers to OMC drives.

Thanks Lazy Daze...twice in one day.

Understand about the Merc vs. OMC. I wonder if it will ever get to a point where I can't find a replacement parts.

I'm going to start metering out my grounds to see if I can find anything.

The motor slowing down and sometimes dies when I use the trim seemed telling but I don't know what its telling me (doesn't sound like a grounding issue anymore with that symptom).
