Trim stuck! Please help!

Just as an FYI. If replacing the pistons, the boat will need to be "on the hard" (out of the water on stands / rack / trailer). It is a DYI job, if you have the mechanical expertise. If not, best left to a mechanic to do.

Thank you. Can you explain why it needs to be out? Just the location of the work? So appreciate the input.

The pistons on the drive are under water. If you could get them off under water, hydraulic fluid would leak into the water = illegal.

Helpful to know. My boat is completely out of the water when on the lift. I have even done hull patching while “in the water” but on the lift. I am still working on securing a trailer to pull out though. Thanks so much!!

I have had some luck working on the outdrive while in the lift using a small floating platform I built - about 4' x 6'. I lash it snuggly so that it can't move much side to side and sit on a bucket, running the lift up/down to first provide access and then to get it "just right" for working on the outdrive. So far I've used this for changing the outdrive oil. Next up I may be rebuilding the Trim cylinders from it.

The platform is simple - a couple of 2x6 floats, 2x4 frame, and 1x6 decking. I keep it floating in front of my boat and use it for getting to the outside of the lift for lube and, now, outdrive service.

I don't know if alphas or any different but on my alpha one gen two it was just the end caps that were the issue with my trim no Rams no pistons just the end cap
