Some time i have to press my trim switch to lower the drive 2-4 times before the drive will go down. When i hit the switch it will only click. When i go to trim up it works perfect every time.....I would like to fix this myself, so can anybody point me in the right direction???? rob.

The relays on the trim pump are going bad, replace them and it should work. I had this problem on my boat to the point that the drives would trim down with the switches but I had to use the trailer buttons to trim out, not a good way to go. I replaced the up and down relays on both pumps and problem gone.

Do you mean the trim soleniod??? and do i have one or two of them, thank you for all your help

:smt021 Back again, i'm being told my boat came with two diffrent trim solenoids by one boat shop and that it only came with one type of solenoidsby another repair place???? Can anyone tell me if this is true????

My 1989 Alpha one Gen one has an UP solenoid and a DOWN solenoid, so there are two of them each with the specified duty. I don't remember if they are the same part number or not (I think they are the same but better check your application).

Very timely topic! I just noticed today that one of my drives won't come up with the button at the helm. One will, but the other won't.
Both will go back down with the button at the helm. Both will go up with the "Trailer" buttons.
Are these things located on the pump in the bilge? Do I have two of each, or a set for each drive?
Can anyone post a picture or part number so I can see what they look like?

Mine has two relays/solenoids on the pump. How ever i cant find the remote reservoir for the fluid could you help me with this? Its an 86 merc 260 horse 350 with alpha1 drive

:smt038Update.... Went on my day off Tuesday, bought two new trim seloniods, made by quicksilver. Cost me 38.00 dollars.Took me about a hour to remove all the trim off the back of the boat so that i could have enough room to work. I ran all new wires to and from the trim seloniods, and .... everything now works great!!!!!! Now its on to led lights for my dash from superbright leds.com Thaks for all the help... Rob.
