Speaking of cannibals...
I have a distant relative that disappeared around 1900. My great-aunt Madge told the story. He was a religious man that was going to Brazil to deliver the word of God to the jungle's savages. She was a young woman when the family threw a going away party/celebration for him before he left, he'd be gone a few years on this mission far up the Amazon.
He never returned. Others like him that followed years later heard stories from some of the natives that claimed he and his crew had an encounter with an unfriendly tribe and they were killed.
Eventually contact was made with a small tribe that not only repeated the story but possessed some items that belonged to the missing missionary. They also said he may have been eaten. It was suspected that this was the dangerous tribe he tangled with and had him for lunch.
I asked Aunt Madge...don't you think he should have left those savages alone, let them believe in whatever they wanted to? She just chuckled a bit and said 'I think so'.
